that is the question. So i've stripped these with some paint stripper expecting the worst only to find that actually they're in pretty damn good condition. Only thing is I don't really want a mirror shine and I don't want to be on my every week trying to keep them clean. Do I paint them silver with a can of wheel paint or fine sand them to get an even finish and leave them?

Use a scotch pad and rub them all in the same direction to give a "brushed" look then some clear coat. Personally for slots it's the shine that does it.

some good inspiration, i've polished one today and still not sure. wasn't keen on a polished lip but now i don't know. The flat grey and polished lip option might be a good call, or maybe flat beige. Vans not staying red.

How hard would it be to anodise them? Surely that could give you the best of both worlds (almost).

Polish!
Get some thick lacquer on after and they won't be so hard to keep clean.
