Hello People of Retro Rides, Well i havent posted much of late, due to working crazy hours, but since having an amazing time at the gathering and meeting lots of friendly people, i have decided that has to change. Anyway, my problem is this, I own a vw, a cool old vw... which i love beyond words and will never give up unless..... well i will never give it up. The trouble is, although i have done alot of work to it, including engine swaps, suspension, wheels, etc,... its all stuff which is almost standard on any old vw now. I want to do stuff which is different but i cant think of anything which hasnt been done to an old vw. Its a dilema which keeps annoying me, so should i just go with the flow and have fun even if it has been done time and time again, or should i keep trying for something different? I was pondering converting the 16v motor to twin su carbs?, I'm not to knowledgable with carbs but figured it was different then the usual twin 40's/45's.... I was also thinking about pushing it more towards a road legal track car, stripped out and ligthend but done tastefully so its obvious the car is cared for, as i don't want people thinking its just been stripped and thrashed. Any thoughts or views are welcomed, don't quite know what i am expecting from this post tbh ;D I just started typing... A pic of the car...

I want to do stuff which is different but I cant think of anything which hasnt been done to an old vw. Stop. Stop right there... ;D That's half your problem, stop thinking about 'old VWs', for a start it's all proportional and that is not an old VW to a lot of us Just look at cars... As just cars, Japanese cars, American cars, go get lost in a world of blogs and magazines and randomly hit 'save picture as' when you see something you like. You'll soon shake off the need to be different or intentionally set out to shake up a scene. Just go back to liking cars instead of labels

^^^ +1.
Disconnect yourself and do what you WANT rather than trying to be different (or the same). That's where new ideas and true creativity comes from.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem? Can you recomend any good blogs? Also does anyone have any info on whether twin su's would work? Thanks

Its a dilema which keeps annoying me, so should I just go with the flow and have fun even if it has been done time and time again, or should I keep trying for something different? I think you've hit the nail on the head there: have fun. It's your car, do what you want. Different is often good, but different is not always good. For example, I can't remember ever seeing a Jetta like yours with a huge penis spraypainted on the bonnet, but this would not be a good look for you. Sometimes right is just right Twin SUs would be pretty cool though, I do like a nicely polished pair of dashpots. Matron... ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

not much to add really - your car, your rules, don't let everyone else guide you in making it, do what YOU want. If people hate it they obviously don't have the same taste as you, but it doesnt matter because you're the one thats going to be driving it not them. As long as it makes you happy, nothing else matters. Although I do think that marina thats on here would be good inspiration for a patina'd racer remember - haters always gonna hate, so don't bother listening to them. ;D
