I've seen these mentioned a few times and I'm wondering if I've understood this right. I basically take off the steel wheels, turn them round by 180deg. and put them back on? I can see that will give me a wider track, how would it affect handling? And what would the MoT man say (not that'd be difficult to change back...)?

If you do that the chances are they wont sit properly on the hub as the front of the wheel is not necesarilly the same shape as the back What they mean is cutting the centre out and turning it around and re welding it as has already been mentioned.
