I'm looking at painting the floor on the buggy but have absolutely no idea how to do it.
theres a patch of what i hope is surface rust on the driver side rear footwell. the rest of the floor is either red or black. I'm looking at painting the whole thing black. id rather do it with brushes since my masking skills are terrible at best.
so whats the script? sand/wire brush the lot, primer then paint? any paint and primer reccommendations? any black really, matt or otherwise. must be waterproof too
and just so i know, what sort of price am i looking at if i get a paint shop to do it?

give it a good brush, or whizz it over with a sanding disk on a grinder to bring new metal up then give it a wipe with some degreaser paint choice? id go for a couple coats of hammerite or smooth hammerite. also id prob start in the middle, at front or back then work outwards, to avoid painting yourself in!!

I'm guessing you are doing this with the body still on? I'm doing the bug pan with Por15 and rollers next week. Its been powdercoated, so I'm just scoring it back with a scotchbrite and doing it straight on top. be sure to remove all rust before you start, you can get a fair few attachments for drills and grinder which should enable you to get to it all.

thanks for the help all.
so if i go the hammerite way (found some on ebay so looks like thats the choice) do i need to use primer? what primer would be best? how much primer and hammerite will i need?
the finish doesnt have to be perfect. i don't want the floors paintjob to be better than the shells ;D

I'd strip the floor back using strip and clean discs like these. You can get them from DIY places like B&Q. These whizz off paint and rust down the bare metal pretty fast and leave a spot on finish for painting on. -Ed

You can buy a cheepo power drill for £20. It'll save you a lot of time and effort! Or you could borrow a drill of someone maybe?

Yeah should do. The DIY store ones have the arbour built in. They are not all that cheap to buy but do last quite a while. Sharp edges will wear them out faster but if you go carefull you can make them last. I think they are cheaper from Frost than from B&Q.

I know what I would do is pull the body off,get the pan grit blasted then primed with POR15 ,then coated with Pick up truck "bedliner" .It's absolutely bullet proof and once down you can forget about it forever. have a look here to see what i am on about... www.rhinolinings.com/RL/main/

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

i actually ended up starting mine today. Just did the main top floor pan section, still need to strip the front and rear suspension to finish the pan and then do the suspension parts also. Then i need to do the underside. You get the idea though. this is how it started and 2 hours later

I'm not going to bother taking the body off. mainly since i don't have enough room to store the shell if its not attatched to the chassis. and thats how it will end up, i will take it off, cock something up, not be able to fit it back on properly and then leave it in a heap.
besides it doesnt really need a massive amount of work. just needs neatening up really. its pretty solid from what i can tell

Are you just going for Black on the floor? Coz I think pink or possibly sickly green would do the job nicely

you shouldnt need any primer for any hammerite based paint, but i do believe that hammerite make primer also! so that could be worth looking at... as previously mentioned, it is always a good idea to remove any rot/rust/bubbles first!
