I'm freaking rabid at the moment. This 4 door 1200 saloon isn't bad, 40k 2 owners and needs a small volume of welding which Joncedric is helping me sort out. And I looked at this later 1200 estate today, another 2 owner car, very sweet engine and gearbox - lots of potential, but not sure if I can stomach the welding but it would be a real shame to break it.

Its been outside for 3 years, will need attention to the inner wings and door bottoms, arches would need treating - its also suffered a leak by the arial mounts - but the floorpan looks ok. 50/50.
Very nice looking car though.

Doesn't sound that bad. Inner wings are nearly always rusty on them. Door bottoms is usual too. If it actually HAS any rear arches it's a bonus! I wish I'd kept my yellow one really as that was quite solid.
Most important thing is what the interior and trim is like. You can make bodywork but interior and detailing is not so easy.

That white one is top! I had a dream the other night that I was riding round in a totally non descript estate car (no fixed brand in my dream) but that one would nail it!
I know - strange dreams but it seems to be that or I'm in an episode of "The Bill"

The caretaker at my school in Whitley bay used to have one like this one, always remember it parked in the garden of his house, which itself was in the playground of the school.
DC, did you actually buy that wagon then or just check it out?

How come there are two sorts of B310 wagon then? Think this one intended as the more commercial version, in Japan it seems a lot of estates are sold as vans. You could also get a 3dr panel van version of the B310, and some countries including France got this with windows to create a 3dr estate. IIRC, this type of estate got leaf springs on the back whereas the fastback estate had a 4-link coil spring arrangement, also defining the split between people-oriented wagons and stuff intended for more commercial duty. Can’t remember the sales figures so couldn’t say whether it made sense for Datsun UK to sell both models here, but they did the same thing with the following B11 FWD Sunny so it must have done. Basic answer is in Japan wagon = plusher estate for people, van = more basic estate for goods, even though they may be the same model.
