About 15 years ago, one Friday evening just before payday, (so was boracic!), my erstwhile flatmate and I go to Kinross motor auctions for a bit of 'entertainment' as beer was off the menu!
There was a lovely white '73, (IIRC), XJ6 Jag there with 12 month's MOT and a little bit of ticket on it. It'd been painted and wasn't the best job, but it was a lovely old thing however we'd resigned ourselves to being spectators knowing we didn't have two ha'pennies to rub toghether.
It came round and we watched intently as the bidding was invited to start at £250. Nothing. Then £200 and it kept going to £100 when the auctioneer said it was there 'for sale' meaning no reserve!!!!!!
Our jaws hit the ground and we racked our brains trying to think where we could get a short term loan from until payday, (Monday!) to no avail.
It sold for £150!!!
Afterwards, my 'mate' told me he had £300 in a savings account but struggled with the idea of 'wasting' it on an old Jag.
ER reckonned his injuries weren't 'life threatening'!!
