Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Flux and footman james have given me good quotes in the past. I have then mini with flux stupidly low price (i think they made a mistake!! ;D) but their agreed value is wibblepoo. They want me to get an 'independant valuation' how the hell do i get one of those? ask you guys?

Some car clubs give valuations, I know the Capri Club do for a price.

an agreed valuation is usually a written statement on headed paper from an established owners club - you can ask the insurer for a list of recognised clubs but usually anything official sounding, with a postal address is good enough.... internet only 'clubs' don't normally cut it. it will normally be backed up with some adverts showing cars in a similar condition to yours at around the price you're suggesting, or records of cars selling for that price.
as an example, for my old 1303 the insurer would accept a valuation from the VWOC, but not from a VW specialist garage or the moderator of "eDubs" (an old old message board, predated TotalVW and VZi)
most established clubs will know what they're doing and will have some pre-written forms to fill in for you, if you're a paid-up member they don't normally charge.
as for the insurer.... i know HIC (Herts) insure anyone over 18, and are fairly sensitive to classic motors. Or I got a good deal through Sureterm Direct but don't know their age restrictions.

I was always with Norwich Union for my 'standard' cars, my 1500 has a nonstandard engine though and NU's underwriters won't cover that, which is fair enough They were bargain tastic all the time! Better than the classic ones, in most instances. I'm now (save me!) with Adrian Flux as they were the only people who could offer a reasonable quote.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Just ask who the policy underwriter is though! I'm making a point to avoid Highway policies and I know a lot of the people mentioned in this thread so far use them for some of their policies.
When I had the Viva I was able to use a "marque specialist" to value it.
Usually an owner valuation is fine for cars up to about £25,000 value.

I've had a couple of cars insured with Hastings direct-seemed really good, always helpful (never made a claim though) but wouldn't insure anything modified so now with Adrian Flux, mods no problem
