Evening gents, I have a knocking on the front N/S suspension of my Volvo and unless I'm being paranoid I think it's developing on the O/s too. I'm not much of a mechanic but I've had a look and I think this bushing is causing the knocking as it's corroded and not much is left of it. (not the best picture I'm afriad) If it is this bushing is it an MOT failure, and how hard a job is it to replace it? any help or advice would be appreciated!

Looks quite likely to me. It is a fail if there is play.. the MoT method of checking would be to jack the wheel slightly off the floor then get an assistant to lever between floor and tyre with a large crowbar (or similar) while you watch the centre of the bush for excessive movement.
I'm not sure how hard that would be to change (can't tell how it attaches from the pic), but they are normally fairly reasonable to do.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Thanks for the reply, it looks like theres a couple of bolts each side of it, but I will have to get it up on ramps to have a better look.

Tends to be the compliance bush, that either sits ahead of the wheel (such as Omegas) or behind (such as most BMWs).

only other thing would be the drop link(link between anti roll bar and the strut), or knacked strut ,any leak from strut?
