The car is a Volvo 740 with Auto box. At the moment the oil for the box shares the same Radiator as the Water. I'm going to have to replace it as the core is starting to break up, so i was wondering if i could use a seperate radiator for the oil from the transmission?

Yes, absolutely, you'll just have to find somewhere else to mount it. Usually it's incorporated when space is at a premium, if you have room for two most cars have a separate cooler.

Yes, my Stag runs a seperate rad on the same transmission, assuming your 740 is a 2.3.
However, you may need new pipes etc. and a place to put the new cooler. Personally, I'd just get a good quality radiator (either genuine or something along the lines of Nissens or NRF (who seem to sell OEM stuff, or at least with Porsche bits anyway).
I'd still take a look on the Volvo forum as I am sure it is something the towing brigade on there have done to prolong oil/gearbox life.

We used an old engine oil cooler for the autobox on my ex's mk1 escort and that has a tuned HT racing pinto on the front of it, its been fine for about 5 years now, make sure its thermostatically controlled if its seperate from the water rad.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.
