Well, how else do I get your attention ?
Another one of those simple solutions, that had Nicola and mate Jon thinking I was stupid, mad or both.
With Tom continueing with the trials riding, and getting better the last time he was out, I decided that seeing as we had Jon's spare bike to use for Tom, my single bike trailer was not going to make the grade anymore.
I had considered turning it into a 2 bike trailer, but the weight on the front of the trailer when moving it about with 2 bikes would be a pain.
So on Monday I boshed a bid way above my usual level on a nice Spanish built 3 bike trailer, and then did the 150 mile return trip to Bracknell 10 minutes after winning it. The seller had originaly agreed to give me a Buy it Now price of £150.00 but someone put a bid in overnight before we could edit his ad to a BIN. There were 24 bids, I made a bid of £263.64 at the last 10 seconds and won it for £260.60 .
It came with a loading ramp, and spare wheel, often both items are not part of the deal. So I feel I got a decent deal. The seller, Martin is also a really decent chap, and we spent quite a bit of time chatting about cars, bikes and retros.... he has a nice 60's Mustang convertible stashed in Spain.
When I uncoupled it back home, I realised it was quite nose heavy.
Today I chopped the Spare and its mounting point off and relocated it to behind the axle.
Now it handles a lot easier and feels lighter too.
Question is, why not build it like that in the first place??
You can pick an elephant up with a feather if you have a long enough lever. Sometimes though, people only see the elephant.
As I bought it.
Bracket and spare removed, surgical site painted with 2 coats of satin black.
Reattached under the rear behind the axle. Spare still is higher than the axle. Result !!
Tomorrow I will wash and use detergent on the surface of the trailer and then give it a new coat of Satin black. And fit the number plate.
