Hi there,
I know this is a little too new for here, but thought I'd ask.
I've been helping my mate sort his 2001 Astra out with a service, suspension problem and a leaky sump.
Sorted everything yesterday and left the sump until today. Got the sump off with no trouble, cleaned it all off, put the RTV stuff we got from Vauxhall themselves and stuck it back on. All seamed well but then after a run around the block it was leaking from where the sump meets the gearbox. Frustrated, we whipped the sump off again, resealed it and put it back on again making 100% that non of the sealent liquid stuff had moved, which it hadn't. Done everything back up to the right torques and was fine. Took it for another run and it was dripping from the same place again. Soon as you turn the engine off the drip slows right down to a few drops an hour.
Looking around the Vauxhall owners forums, it sound as if the rear crank seal has gone, but there was no leak before we started from there, it was from the other end under the cambelt (which is leak free now).
Any ideas guys? The car needs to be 100% by Friday as he's driving it to Belfast and giving it to his son.
