Went to an event called Ten of the Best yesterday in York, fastest street cars over the quarter mile, top speed and handling course. It was won overall by Simon Norris in his shortened and roof chopped Evo9 for those that know it... But that ain't retro ;D So I took some pics I thought you might like instead. This was parked up with a competitors number on it, genuine evolution 2, T16 205. The guy didn't run it as he only had enough fuel to get to and from the event with a little bit to spare, and that's all he could get hold of because it's Elf race fuel, 103 octane and £6 a litre... Bit lost on the general public but I had a good chat. top bloke. This was competing in the FWD class, and I'm sure some of the VW boys will recognise it... Real bare bones racer, great to see. Took a few more pics of each, but it's a short post for me as I'm shafted after it took eight hours to get home today... At least I was rolling in a Sov style, my transport for the 700 mile jaunt.

Fifteen years time Simons Evo will be the coolest thing I'll have never seen before ;D
You never know where retro riders will get to eh? Bringing down the system from the inside... I enjoyed some tightening of the skin too... Didn't get to see much of the racing as I working, always a shame, what about Stevie Ross and his LS motored, Vortech Supercharged Mk2 Granada, did ya see that? ;D

I've been every year since it started and i think he's been there every year! Would have liked to have seen a few more interesting cars but i guess there is only so many they can let run in one day. Has been things like cosworth powered transits in the past. Simon

That Norris Evo is spectacular!: Funny you should mention the Transit too...I saw that on the TV coverage (of this event?) from a few years back. Being a Transit (OK, Tourneo ;D) owner myself I do have a passing interest in Transit-modding that I'll never allow myself to follow up! Cossie-Transit-tastic!

I know the guys who run two of the subaru's that were running there (Lateral Performance and Zen) so I was tempted to go! When it came to it there was so much that needed doing here and it was such a trek that I didnt think it was worth it. I'll go next year!

Respect to the T16 driver, for driving it to the place, must have been an event all in itself. As for Norris's Evo,makes you wonder just how far you can push a four cylinder

If anyone knows the guy and he wants to save a few quid tell him to try Motorshack for fuel, get the right deal and even 118 octane is only £50 for a 19 litre barrel... That's only £2.60-odd a litre....

Paul (Hancox?) and his transit are legends, he offered me a passenger ride a few years ago, but health and safety wouldn't allow it, likewise with a few this year... I even promised to sign my life away and everything. Oh well.
There were a couple of quick Corsa's there, I like the idea but up against turbod CRX's there's no contest. 370bhp was the output of one I know of.
The T16 has been run on Elf fuel since new, apparently it's all it can run on, not sure how that might work, but I'll bet the guy who owns it knows best, so I'll not doubt him. Especially as he also owns a Renault 5 Turbo 2 road car and Grp B racer... ;D
