Can't remember the last time I posted, but after Sunday I thought it would be a good excuse to say what a brilliant day we had at RR '11, couldn't have asked for anything more really. The Mini has only been used about three times since its rebuild so it was good to get it out amongst the RR lot, but the diverse mix of tin was something you just don't get elsewhere and I managed to catch up with a fair few members.
I was supposed to do a bit of a story board to plonk in front of it, but didn't quite get round to it. But my dad, who was there on Sunday, used to compete against the car in the 70s in an 850 Mini and during the afternoon session he managed to get out in it as well.
Prior to us getting hold of the Mini, or the 'Cockney Rebel' as it's known, it had been stowed away for over 20 years untouched, so the ratty paintwork is original from its lock up spray job during the 70s, but it has actually raced since about '67 (I've got lots of old B&Ws of it from Brands, Crystal Palace, Snet etc).
Since 2002, it has been rebuilt mechanically back to original 850 spec - the block/head was even retained. But despite its pitiful capacity it managed 90bhp when it was setup last year.
Attached is a vid and below are some pictures I managed to grab while wandering around. If anyone got any pictures/vids of the car, then it'd be sweet to see them. I've contacted a couple of members who seem to have shots.
Early days:
Changed to the livery you see now (early/mid 70s):
