just come in from a day of paint "joy". I swear I'm never going to spray another one myself, total nightmare. So if you remember I put the panels I'd removed outside to check them in aylight, now even though I'd carefully put them in the shade the damn things had water marks on them. Would these clean off? Would they heck. So I tried gently using wet & dry to move them and guess what, I ended up sanding the whole freakin panels down again. So I had to go buy more paint as I'd used the last already, but got them done first thing. Delightfully the boot lid reacted to something so that had to be re-redone. Finally everything in a fairly uniform green I set out to clear the lot in 2K clear. What a freakin palaver that turned into. I followed the instructions to the letter but I've still ended up chucking two spray guns away and I had to finish it off with a flippin Earlex sprayer. I'm going back to cellulose. The Ventora is all cleared and everything done now, its just that it has a finish kinda like hammerite. I have a headache and feel a bit sick now. editted with a couple of pics - you can see how rough the clear has gone on. Shiny as anything but seriously orangepeeled. Lots of flatting back to do before I can buff that up

That looks a lot better ;D don't leave the flatting back too long 2K sets like glass and is a B*stard to flat back when it goes Hard..... I ended up flatting with 600g to get the finish back on mine as I left it too long Inside 48Hrs is best, its not like celly where you have to leave it for ages before cutting and polishing I prefer it, but it does take some getting used to if you are used to Cellulose.... the results are well worth it though, and the hardwearing finish is much better too

Well its set like concrete already. I've been using P180 to knock back the peel on the front wing, its taken me an hour to do the top of the wing (working up to a quick pass with 1200). I've hit a section of the wing top with Farecla and hand glaze and it looks acceptable from a distance. I think with a bit more work I can get the fine scratches out maybe. Tomorrow hopefully I'll get time to have a good bash at it. A trial run shows that the DA and P240 discs makes a reasonable job at knocking it back.
This is the worst respray ever. The one I did in the street turned out better and that was using synthetic and it rained part way through!
Feckin 2 pack sucks. It went off in the spray gun I used to clear it and blocked the whole fkin thing up. And that was during the painting! totally bollxed my (cheaper) HVLP gun up.

A strip and soak in Paint stripper will get the guns back, we used to do that every week, just flush through with thinners while using and then Strip and clean guns on a Saturday with paint stripper ;D and that was Painting F1 cars with PPG Deltron 2K Never had that happen before though where is sets in the gun ?? Must have had way too much hardener in it or some seriously fast activator or thinners is all I can think of ? Did they give you all teh data sheets and mixing sticks ? Had the opposite where you wonder if it will ever go off but never setting solid in a gun, usually it will last a day or so in a gun full before starting to set

Mixed exactly as it said on the tin, 2 parts clear, 1 part hardner, 10-20% thinners. Used a proper graduated A+B+% mixing cup. The thinners are good to 25 degrees. I reckon it was about that Saturday probably less outside but it can get a bit warmer in the garage.
I can't be bothered fishing the guns out of the bin now. I think one was a bit manked up anyway since I used it to shoot some Barcoat a while ago.
Even after soaking in thinners it wasn't doing much. It was like glue.
I feel like I've sprayed this car about three times now. Never known something be such a ballache and go wrong at litterally every stage.
And I can't believe how much grit I've got in the paint. Back when I started I sprayed in a concrete garage with unsealed floor and never bothered straining the paint and I got less debris in the paint than I have this one.
Its like a curse.

Ack, sorry to see it go wrong again. I think it's just too hot to be using 2K at the moment, I'm having a nightmare building up the glass on my flipfront because the stuff just sets in about 5 minutes and I don't get enough time to work. I know it's too late but you can get slower activator for hot weather and you can use 10-15% less if you need to. Still the main thing is it's on and the beauty of 2K is you can rub it back to a decent finish.

Its just really hard going sanding that stuff! I've been cursing all those people who've been badgering me into going 2K for ages, no its not easier to work with at all. Its a frikkin nightmare! I didn't think I'd need a slow activator as its supposed to be good to 25 degrees and it didn't feel that hot on the day. I've painted celly and 1K in similar or greater heat and its come out fine.

Shame you didn't spray it in cooler weather really. What brand paint did you use out of interest? I just like the way you can spray it on in ultra thick coats, it flats itself out, then suddenly cures bone hard.
