Inspired by Seth's Performance Cars Ltd thread, here are some pics I took a couple of years ago around Nottingham. A couple of the locations should be familiar if you've been keeping up with my threads LOL I'm going to start off by reposting the old Hooley's Ford building, long since lost to flats. Hooley's was one of the biggest Ford dealers in Notts from like the 1920s up. Their Derby Rd building was a landmark Photo credit to my mate Steve on these Now some of my own... A closed car dealer lot in Mansfield. This one is on the A60, has closed and reopened. Big curse word Liars as I've heard them called, but I have had great service and value from Big City Tyres over the years. This area of town is slated for "redevelopment" and all the local businesses closed down a couple of years ago. This looked like a gonner. But its now been refurbished and reoppened as a fast-fit centre of some kind. Halfords I think. The sign fell off Amber Windows reminding me that years ago this was Motorists Discount Centre and one of the best motor factors in town. Open 7 days (and 7-10 on weekdays). Cheap aladins cave rammed with stuff. FWIW Amber Windows seemed to have closed down when I passed last. Grotty closed off bit of NCP Side street for the big garage below: I fully expected this place to get torn down but after being closed up for like 15 or more years it has now reopened as a Ford Rapid Fit Another closed garage up Cinderhill end I think ATS has been closed as long as I remember I did apply for a job as I thought it would be a cushy number but I got no reply. This one looks closed but has open doors... Only a phone shot but I like this one, its a flash new Bentley and en expanse where a factory has been torn down with another empty shell of one in the backdrop. This place was a filling station and car sales place. After standing derelict a few years it is now a hand car wash Race Motors and neighbouring Cliff Garage. Amazingly the door is open on Cliff Garage. Place has been empty years sign is still up Can't see whats in there... good ventilation this is the back side. looks burnt but isn't The "customer side". back end of the old Midland Magneto site. Lovely art deco garage which is now just memories. Cornish Engineering looks shut down here, but still have a phone number listed. They are gear cutters and setters. Or were. "Torment" had some work done for his Chevette by them. Mostly electical stuff and not sure if they are shut down now or not. Never sure what sort of valves the Valve Shop specialised in because its another Aladdin's cave which has everything for everything. I've not been up there in a long while and think they may be shut down now. Car dealers in West Bridgeford. Site has been cleared since I took this photo. As above Here's a good one, the main site is obviosly a dealer/petrol station but the fun fact is that the next door building now a cafe/bistro used to be a Rover main dealer! Zipster Motors they were called and used to have a stock of about 4 cars on premises. They closed in the 90s. have another old NCP because I can...

There is an Aston place on the south coast (brain gone dead but think its on the coast road towards Bournemouth) that appears to be shut down, but its still full of cars.
I may have a pic - used to go past it a lot as well!

Cliff garage is a odd one as the Owner says its still open! Only reason why I say is becuase hes a frequent customer to Davmac where I'm most Saturday mornings. He did buy a load of generic parts for various modern ford/Vaux too so can only presume its true. I got introduced to the owner and asked the question. Only reason I asked was because I want the Duckhams Sign off the door. He said no to the sign too Costcutter manager now works for Yo Yos (Otherwise known as Sutton Auto factors) up the road.

Yeah but TBH Ive put a torch through the Letter box and the place was pratically bare, no lifts nothing so this was why I asked him. I suppose he could just own it and did not want me snooping about but who know.
The filling station car sales was also part of Hooleys, the sign can still be seen today.

Valve shop is a winner! There used to be a rubber shop in sunderland, just sold rubber sheet, extrusions, hoses and what have you. Basically stuff made of rubber.

Is that ATS in Bulwell?

Silvermac - It is, or was, in Bulwell. I understand the correct method for acquiring tyres up there is to simply remove the wheels from a suitable vehicle during the hours of darkness. The big tyre and exhaust place on Coventry Road in Bulwell has just been demolished. One week I pass and they are trading, next week I pass and the bulldozers have started.
Mr.plums - the Valve Shop sells (or sold) car parts, car accessories, electronic components, household electrical items (as in consumer units, fuses, wiring, light fittings), camping gas, knives, tools, you name it. I used to go there to buy spindle mount radio cassette players years after nobody else had them. I think some of his stock has been there since it opened in the 1930s.
The "valve" could apply to vacuum tubes, radiator valves, cylinder head components, welding cylinder regulators.... You could buy it all there...

They get raced as far as i know. My dad used to deliver to the guy.

If its the place I remember, its in an old mill/industrial building on the first floor and you drove up a ramp to get into the building. The place was wall to wall classic cars - some good, some bad and some wibblepoo. They were parked door handle to door handle and you had to climb over the rows of cars to get to the one you were interested in. The guy always seemed to want a million quid for anything you showed an interest in but wasn't an oval racer AFAIK. I was told that Charlie Trent bought him out about 10 years ago, though - would be great if he was still there. I seem to remember it being somewhere between Poole and Bournemouth but memory is a bit fuzzy, as I moved from Dorset about 12 years ago.

Godfery Davis in St Albans was very similar to the Ford showroom in your first pic. At the time they relocvated to a new sitre out of town there had been a lot of art deco buildings in the area getting listing orders slapped on them. Unfortuneatly GD moved out Saturday and the bulldozers were on site Sunday before anyone could do anything. Glad the Ford Rapid Fit reopened. That's a beautiful bulding.

Anybody have a piccy of the workshops that used to be opposite the police station on Shakespeare(?) Street?
Roller shutter door at street level to a spiral car ramp up to the two/three floors above... Don't know what it started as, but ended up as council workshops, then torn down to build flats and a Tesco Express.
Real shame that went, but did have pleasure of delivering one vehicle there before it's demise. Spiral ramp was really very tight.

That could have been while it was council workshops - they used to service and repair police vehicles, before it was outsourced.

I know I also went there to speak to a desk sergeant, the door next to the ramp was manned by the police at this time (about 1993?)
