hi guys
well it's almost the weekend before the gathering, and a state of mild panic exists at kev towers ;D - who said as usual!?
I'm trying to assemble the wheels for the bluebird - 14" 3 piece splitrim compomotives - the fronts have got their bolts all present and correct, but the rears have no bolts - so I went to the local engineering shop this morning, and got some nice high tensile allen head bolts
unfortunately, the original compomotive bolts have a shank (? - the non threaded bit!) where it passes through the wheel - and my new bolts are threaded all the way up - now I'd have thought that once it's all built up and tight, there's no movement, so there shouldn't be an issue - but with these being, er, wheels - I'd appreciate some input before I cause a bluebird shaped dent in a bus queue full of nuns
- I think I have enough scabby genuine bolts to get by - but I'd be interested if there's any actual reason not to use the new bolts?
cheers - kfw

Assuming they are correctly torqued up, I can't see why it'd be an issue. The only thing I can think of is that the originals may have been like that to prevent the risk of damaging around the bolt holes on assembly. I'm only working on the same logic as you, so I'd want more confirmation first ;D

They will be fine. I ran a set of splits on one of my old racecars with full thread capheads and nothing ever fell off. Have you got the alloy cup washers to use on the front face?

thought I was going to have an even more serious issue - just went to put one of the splits on the back, and the centre isn't 4x114.3 - it's 4x108!!
after trying 2 other centres, I found that the rest of my job lot are 114.3 - phew!
so if anyone wants 3 14" comp split centres, or has an odd TF that they want to sell....

They sell complete sets on ebay for BBS wheels or if you contact schmidt (sp) they do them off the shelf in aray of colours to boot again pricey but I was looking at gold bolts for my Enkei splits, but by the time I worked out bolt prices it worked more than the price I paid for the wheels

Why not alternate the bolts on each wheel? i.e. on with a shank, then one without, then one with etc. Would that put your mind more at ease?
