Chaps
Here is my dilemma. I have a Mini that has been painted in Dulux gloss house paint, in a lovely shade of yellow.
I want to strip the paint all the way back and spray it properly.
What would be the best method? I've got a variable speed sander/polisher in the shed. Nitromors is too messy in my opinion, it burns too!
I await some paint based knowledge.
Cheers

www.sodablast.co.ukor nitromores. It stings but its the best DIY option. You can distort the panels too easily using conventioanl blastig or even with a rotary stripping / sanding tool.

I know you've said you don't like it as it's messy but I think Nitromors would be your best bet. It would eat through the dulux in no time. Wear gloves!

I haven't checked this link but I am guessing it is some kind of specialist who has devised an eco-friendly lemonade-based method of paint removal?

Check the link Its blasting Jim but not as we know it ;D Does not remove any metal and does not harm glass, rubber etc So for what I want to do on the Fiat.... strip off the curse word paint externally without having to strip the whole car...... it makes perfect sense Not sure if it does Rust as well ? need to ask but they do Crushed Walnut shell blasting as well which probably will ;o) Looks good though..... just depends on Cost really

i've (accidently) removed household gloss paint just using a strong degreaser, if they've painted it with that stuff i doubt the prep is any good so it might work ?

I've not used sodablast. I've spoken to the guy a bit and am hoping to use him for the Plymouth. Not cheap, but when you think what you're getting for the £££ its worth thinking about. I was quoted £450 to completely bare metal the Plymouth. And thats a BIG car.

Thats very good I think he will be getting a call... like you say the Plymouth is a big car, Fiat should be a peice of cake by comparison Even for £450 its still a no brainer when you think how long it would take you by hand

My favorite are 3M stripping discs, they come in various grades for what ever job you need to do,I used 2 big ones (7" ) on the outside of the Merc 300SEL ( a BIG car) and may be 6 smaller ones ( 3-4" ) on the door jambs.I used them in a makita 7" variable speed sander.Whole stripping job took a week. The Merc had been painted with house paint too,you have to get ALL of it off because anything else on top will not stick. cms.3m.com/cms/AE/en/2-38/lkccEO/view.jhtml

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
