Spent the day with Daddy Damaged today, up at a localish trad Classic show. Reasonable turnout given the weather forecast...as it was it stayed almost completely dry all day, although we were narrowly missed by a few ominous-looking storm clouds.
Was pretty well-attended, although the gaps in the trade stand areas bore testimony to the economic uncertainties we're all facing right now. There's a definite sense of ageing in the clientele though, and I do worry where shows like this one will fit into the social calendar of today's youth. Maybe our world (as it was) really is on the wane. Sad.
Here's the best of the day, with as ever a link at the end to a Flickr album where you can see 'em all.
Enjoy.
I have to say this appealed to me on every level. Magnificent.
When it comes to pink Cadillacs, you don't get much pinker than this. I'm sure it spends its days transporting hordes of drunk women around to hen nights, but I'm of the generation that can't help seeing a ginormous pair of cowhorns on the hood and whistling the theme tune to the Dukes Of Hazzard'. '....Just good ol' boys....never meaning no harm.....'
Late 13/60 Herald was stunning. Just needs a hit with the lowering stick and that'd be perfect.
£950ono would have bought you this. Nice and straight, but I think people who paint underseal right up the sills need slapping round the face with a wet fish. Hee hee. 10 months' MOT and tax exemptness make this a smashing project vehicle for someone.
Rough and ready 'Breadvan' '73 Mustang. I liked this a lot.
Here's one for Akku. What WERE they thinking? It's just....so...utterly...WRONG. So much so that I'd actually love one. Preferably a diesel. ;D
And here's one for BenzBoy. This was absolutely gorgeous.
Rough but fun-looking C-Cab running DOHC Ford Sierra engine/box combo.
Owned, rebuilt and enjoyed by a couple who looked to be in their 80's, believe it or not.
Stock Mk2 Zody had a fascinating history. Owned and maintained since 1965 by the same guy. Incredible condition, and sounded GLORIOUS. Wasn't the only Z-car there either.......
Volvo P1800 looked gorgeous under the gathering stormclouds....
....as did this achingly beautiful Lotus Europa.
Early A35 van is daily-driven, running an Isuzu 1700 intercooled turbodizzler thru an Omega box into a 105E back axle. Had a chat with the owner who reckons it'll do 90 all day, 50-60mpg and goes sideways at the drop of a hat. Car of the show for me.
Right, I'm off for a well-deserved Sunday Roast. The rest of the pics (and there about 140 of 'em) can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/damaged23/sets/72157627253540787/ ;D
