Ive just bought my first Mercedes! Perhaps not major retro, but its boxy and rusty so has some retroness right?! Firstly, have some pics from the seller.. So the first thing that needs attention is the front wings. What what you recommend? 1-Body shop to repair and paint? 2-New panals - body shop for paint? 3-Replacement 'good' panels from a breaker? And there is a piece missing in the lower bumper grill - so need to find out what thats called so i can order one up. Other than that, at this stage, i plan for an in/out deep clean and general tidy up. Id like to colour code the black plastics. I would like to complete a few modifications, like debadge, pressed plates, facelift front grill, colour coded, stereo equipment, remove the wood look in the cabin. What else would be the norm to change? I current own a Passat Diesel on Audi alloys (+ General Dub scene modifications), a lot have Mercedes alloys. What is the general feeling for Audi alloys on a Mercedes?

Before you deal with the cosmetic rust, I'd drop the engine undertray and check how bad the crossmember is for rust - they can go very badly

You'd need to bore out credible alloys to fit a merc, I think......

i fitted some audi wheels to my last merc, nightmare, had to bore out the centre of the alloy to fit the centre of the merc hub, as i recall merc hubs centres are 73mm. most wheels (other than aftermarket ones) have a smaller centre so require machining to fit.
its sad how badly these mercs rust compared to the old ones. there is a E55 AMg in my work place thats hanging in rust on every panel. shocking

Il sourse some newer merc rims I think. The arch rust is only paint deep, i plan to have them rubbed down, treated, and blended. I might try them myself?

As has been said think the best advice would be to take the undertray off or google mercedes w210 rust problems, then take it off. Then pray.

You'd need to bore out credible alloys to fit a merc, I think...... I didn't mean "credible", flamin iPad grrrr.... I meant to say that the center bore on an Audi wheel is smaller that on a Merc wheel, so you'd need to either machine it a bit bigger or attack it with a drill and a flap wheel, although the latter could take some time and it might be a bit of a blighter to keep it central. Sorry the original post sounded a bit rude, it was entirely unintentional and Apple inc are entirely at fault for any mental anguish that you may have suffered as a consequence......

Ok - so yesterday this it what my front drivers side arch looks like (worst of the 4) I first started picking at the flaky paint. And then used my drill with a wire brush end to grind down the rust out to clean metal. As per Once ive really cleaned the arch up I intend to spray them with silver Hammerite for protection then cover the arch with these which I bought off ebay - in 'ready to paint' finish. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250857718385&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITIl paint the arch extensions using Halfords paint to match the car. Not sure what to put in between the fresh painted arch and extension? Updates to follow

I had a W210 E55 AMG for just under a year mate. Gorgeous car that and went like stink Big problem with rusting arches though, Merc supposedly do a 30 year anti corrosion waranty but it's useless Here's mine; Would have another AMG but the Supercharged W211....silly quick

They were electric mate...whole bloody car was and the electrics suffered it's fair share of gremlins! Still loved it though. I'll try & find an interior shot for a comparison to see where the buttons are!! I can't remember now but I think it was down by the stick.

I think I can see the button on your pic - unfortuantely I don't have it! Ive since learned that mine are spring loaded and therefore unable to fold in - oh well. Thanks for digging the pic out for me.

So I attacked the front drivers side arch... I first grinded out all the rust. Using POR15 products I cleaned, prepped and painted. Which looked like this I bought a set of these off ebay painted them up and fitted. They look 'ok'....Better than before....a tenth the cost at getting them done properlly. You will notice I swapped out the wheels also!
