My LT35 recovery has a small problem - there is excess play in the nearside steering idler (the arm on the chassis leg) and the MoT has expired I can't find an idler anywhere - none of my local scrapyards have any, VW don't supply any more and there isn't an aftermarket alternative so I'm stuck. So, if anyone sees this shape LT35 in a scrapyard, please let me know! There will be a reward for finding, removing and posting

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Dealership. They even tried denying making a LT35. I'll try commercial on monday then.
Yeah, found that ebay one already, I've sent him a message.

Dealership. They even tried denying making a LT35. Funny, I had that as well. 'LT... 40... Never heard of it. Are you sure it's a VW?' Good luck

Could a replacement be fabricated from rose joints and steel bar as a worst-case?

fingers crossed this is the right part for you, labelled as 8 C281-498-171/A -repair kit for steering arm shaft Available for £73.69 ;D I'd check to see how much it comes with as the image shows the top half but not the bottom. VW uk might not have it available but vwclassicparts.de or vw heritage do.

If its just the idler could you 'adapt' one from something else? Maybe by swapping the arm over?

Fixed it!
I got the rebuild kit from the ebay link MiniDan posted - I actually missed the auction but it didn't sell, so a couple of emails later I got it posted for a tenner, fitted it this afternoon.
Test is booked for tomorrow....
