Hi all. I've got a 97 306 turbo diesel. My problem started yesterday after a 100 mile round trip to Farnborough.
Car seemed fine but while sat in a line of traffic noticed the car was a little more smokey than normal. Quite embarrassingly smokey as you could see it coming forward in clouds into the traffic. Temperature was normal and car still drove well enough.
The smoking got worse and worse but I arrived at my destination.
Car was left for an hour then took a few cranks more than normal to get it going but this time blue smoke was really coming out of the exhaust.
I drove for a bit but the car was losing power and smoke was really bad by this point (other cars holding back behind us, people/police looking over) It was totally gutless and wouldn't get over 30mph. I just about made it into a petrol station.
Tried to start it again but took ages and again thick stinking smoke out the exhaust and would cut out without my foot on the pedal.
Had to get recovered home as there was no way I could drive it.
Oil and water both seem ok and not contaminated.
Any ideas? I'm thinking blown headgasket but oilway into bore rather than broken into the waterway.
