For those of you who don't remember, Me and my mate nigel were offered this car a few weeks ago. I couldnt relly buy it as i have no more space but we managed to pursuade one of our mates to buy it and store it on the condition that we would repair it and get it MOT'd for him to use as a run about (untill he gets bored of it then we get it for free!) I think its got alot of potential. Alot more than an RS/rally replica anyway Today we stared work stripping the interior - not looking too bad mmm theres a hole- but hey its an escort , its the norm! Bring out the grinder - so far so good Sill bent out of the way to inspect the damage, note pile of 'car dust' on the floor is growing! inspect the wing - humm thats the interior, that means 3 layers of rust atleast! It came off in my hand! - looking not so good now! So wheres the metal then? - omfg what have i let myself in for! a couple of pokes with the screwdriver and 'puff' it all turns to dust! Shi!$%!£_%*""£$%£$%"$%^+(*!!!! don't you just love em, stay tuned for more developement as the week progresses

It's not too late to walk away from that one. Looks like it's too far gone to be worth the amount of effort to me.

Dude if you get that done you will be the hero of all heroes. Like Mr 69 says though, it does look quite a long way gone, I'd probably be well on my bike by now. Tough decision to make that one.

Pah! It's nowt that a welder and some sheet steel can't fix! Fabricate it up bit by bit and it'll work out alright.
I'd only punt it on if it was like that everywhere but if most of it's decent then crack on and get it patched up!

Yeh this is by far the worst bit. I could tell the wheel arch had been wagged up but i was hoping i wouldent have to disturb it too much! unfortunatly we needed to weld the sill to something so it had to go! Otherwise its got perfect strut tops and the floor only requires a couple of patches and its not every day i find escorts like that! Other areas of crust are just cosmetic so wont get welded as they add to the 'look' ;D
Its not difficult work, just a bit time consuming.

"There may be trouble ahead...." Old Escorts, eh!
Still, I've owned worse, although that didn't have a happy ending. Hats off to you guys, my money says it'll be MOT'd before summers over!
If you decide not to bother, you know where to come..... ;D (Can't see that happening though!)

BTW Slater, mine goes in to have sills etc hopefully next week, and I may not need the big chunk of rear wheelarch / door shut area we cut out my white one - you're welcome to it if I don't need it, might save some fabrication (although I guess you have a load of yellow escort jigsaw pieces! ;D)

Like Ratdat says, fabbing skills to the fore and you're sorted. At least it's not front wings, roof panel and other assorted over priced bits.
Look forward to seeing the results. Slammed on skinny red band tyres with a roof rack and rear screen blind?

Would you belive nigel chucked away the rear door shut bits from the yellow one!!! We would be most greatful for any parts we could steal off the white one, i fogot you still had it tbh!
I think the first 'mod' will be a 2" drop and some discs on the front.

Day2 You know that small hole, It turned into a bigger one Rot chopped Its soild! honest! 1st patch went on, flobbed some weld on it with my mates hobby mig so dosent look too good. Gas welding is a billion times better for this kind of work.

Yeah MIG nearly always looks curse word on old metal. Try using pure CO2 as it's a bit less vulnerable to impurities
