Hmmm... yes, slow progress, probably for the best so I can catch up with the Mini :-P Its back on the road btw, poo-ing oil all over the block paving again so going to have to get an oil mat and oil stain remover and all that.... would be nice to have a barn like yours but drivng to Southam might be a bit difficult!! Anyway, just been catching up on the progress I still don't really understand how you have the tie to go to work and then work on the car and stilll post on RR!! I think I'm getting old... Right, onwards with the Mini, I suppose I'll have to start my own project thread somewhen too....

So a another littler update The main body of the bonnet is done - now just needs tons of sanding plus some filler, but that can wait till I'm doing the rest of the body work.

Also got hold of a splitter to form the basis of the one I'm making. It's nice cos it includes a grilled area in the middle for extra flow to the rad, and even has built in brake ducts. In fact it's about as perfect a fit as I could hope for, even the right width! Pure fluke though, I just saw it on ebay and though "that'll probably do it" lol. Set it up to about 100mm off the ground, so enough to clear kurbs on a track, or small speed bumps. Splitter as it started - can anyone guess what it's off? As a clue it's British and fitted, well in the right position anyway!

If you get front lift when it is all together I can make some proposals to improve matters... Otherwise that splitter looks like a fair bit of work... I reckon its off a Rover 220T the coupe 2.0ltr turbo thingy-ma-whatsit... maybe... although having googled it I think I'm wrong... And yes, enjoy the States, and the Mustang ;D

Looks mean from the front. I like the single light conversion. It's got an almost Barracuda look to it.

Cheers guys.
As for Aero Mr Porter, feel free. There are a number of mods currently planned:
*Flat floor - basically I'll fit a full under-tray, that starts at the lower edge of the splitter and runs the full length of the vehicle to a rear diffuser.
*Rear diffuser - of around 7 deg, running from just behind the rear axle to the rear valance. Due to the nature of enclosing the powertrain there'll be some cut outs in the floor to allow some cooling, plus ducting from the currently fake ducts on the rear quarters to the diff. The rear valance will then have a number of cutouts to let the hot air out of this area.
*Sill extensions - basically the sills will be extended to a bit below floor level to try and keep the air flow under the car, sadly these won't be fully effective as ground clearance will be needed
*Side windows - these will be remade in lexen and fitted to the outer edge of the current apertures meaning they'll be flush with the A-pillar (won't help a lot, but will limit the amount the flow get messed up)
*Rear spoiler - small shape edged spoiler much like those on the Mk2 Escort RS will be fitted to reduce rear lift
*Fins to rear window - this is currently below the level of the C-pillars. Window to be remade and fitted flush to aperture and then a 10-15mm fin to be added down the length of the C-pilar to stop air wrapping around the C-pillar onto the screen causing rear lift - think the fins fitted to many a Group C rally car (Quattro)
That's about it. Was going to do a single wiper conversion, with its parked point in the centre, but think that's a bit too much hassle, though mebbe I'll do it anyway, or make the current wipers park in the up position.
Area that could use more work is the front, to try and get the flow to go around and attach better than it is likely to atm - currently going to be a right mess of eddy currents and low pressure areas! So advise there gladly excepted - front bumper will probably be fitted as well, just so you know.

I am liking the XJ40 front bumper . Really liking where the front of this car is going. Simple idea which should be well executed.

Block out the grill like a Dodge Charger and basically use the grill in the splitter as the inlet for the radiator... kinda like a mk3 Tickford Capri in theory but much cooler in application...
Otherwise, if you're going for a completely flat floor you could create an exit duct from the engine bay out through the front wings, you could also then use this to release pressure in the wheel arch if it was all connected (rather than cutting louvres in the tops of the wings) - I'm talking about Aston style ducts in the front wings...
I heard a long time ago about a Porsche which had the floor area setup with channels to guide the airflow and create downforce where it was needed, this would help cooling as well because you could leave the exhaust area / transmission tunnel open - otherwise you'll get chronic heat soak into the cabin and it'll be a nightmare cooling the diff and the gearbox!!
Then I'm pretty much out of suggestions that you haven't already mentioned... just make sure the headlight surrounds fit as snugly to the bodywork as possible - this will prevent water ingress and eventual fretting/rust and will improve flow control around the front end and into the engine bay / headlight buckets...
Just my tuppence worth...

On Aero - I don't think you'll need the C-pillar fins, I would leave them off for now and see how it goes cos I don't think they'll look too great...
On Mods - I was thinking that before you chop the floor you should look at race series you could enter and make sure you'll still be able to enter them in case you decide to 'take it further' in the future...

Quicky update time SO having had a good time out in the US, including a bit of driving this, and yes I loved it, plus there are some amazing roads in California around San Francisco/Santa Cruze - I'm now back and getting on with things So first up is fitting the air dam on. This means opening up the front valance to allow air flow from air damn grill to the rad. Unfortunately this x-member is in the way But given it looks like this from the front - I wasn't too bothered about taking it off! Whilst poking I also found a little rot and some bodge repairs, nice So I've spent the last evening cutting the x-member and rot out - like so Next up - cleaning up the metal, welding up the holes, fitting a new x-member higher up to allow air flow through and then making some ducting and finally fitting the air darn:)
