So it's now back on the road and the good news is the steering feel is much improved with the adjustable top mounts = But there now seems to be 2 distinct rattles = I think I've tracked one down to a brake line, but goodness knows what the other is. Think I'll remake the line so it fits better then do some more bolt torque checking. The front brakes are otherwise sorted thanks to a new master cylinder, though I think an extra bleed is in order. In other news I've finally fitted a sliding window to the drivers side to help with getting some air in the car. Because I couldn't be bothered to take all the rivets out (because I'm lazy) I decided to take the huge risk of trying to fit it in situ. Amazingly it worked, though I did take the precaution of bracing things - And finished - got to say there was some nervous drilling involving a very large hole saw involved, but all good in the end. I've also fitted a second exhaust silencer. I have to say that I actually think it sounds pretty fantastic with only the one, but it is very very loud. So I've fitted this little one from the Cherry Bomb guys, it's called a Sound Barrier and thanks to it's pretty tiny size fits in spot on. It doesn't make it quiet, but does take the edge off enough to pass noise testing at least. Also I've used a bolt on sleeve to fit it, so I can swap the straight through pipe back on in 2 mins - just incase I get bored of being able to hear myself think (sort of). And finally for no good reason I decided to slap some white paint on the crappy road wheels - actually looks alright I think -

Well no progress on this lately due to being overseas with work, but I have been thinking about how I'm going to paint the Capri - next year in time for RRG I hope. Anyway, I fancy a race colour scheme, but I also fancied something different. I toyed with the idea of Broadspeed colours, since they used to be based in the town I build mine, and are heavily linked to the Mk1 Capri - but I want it to be bright, and not a replica. So I thought "what's the the best race colour scheme ever?" - now while that's a hell of a subjective question I think a lot of people would say this one's up there: It's bright enough, retro and just generally awesome. But it'd be a sort of replica, and its a very German colour scheme, and I fancy something a bit more British. I'm also not the biggest fan of Jagermeister, don't get me wrong I've had a few very enjoyable JagerBomb fueled nights, but my drink of choise is Scotch, preferably an Islay single malt - and handily enough one of the 7 distilleries that's on the tiny Island happens to have some of the best branding to have ever graced the side of a bottle. Islay is well worth a visit by the way, it's beautiful. The distillery in question is Bruichladdich, and one of my current tipples is they're very good The Laddie Ten (they do tons of good whiskys, and break the mould a bit compared to most, plus they do a very very good gin). So here is the inspiration for the colour scheme: Sadly I'm no designer/photoshop master, but here's the sort of thing I'm thinking - basically take the Jagermeister scheme, and just change the colour/logos So what do people think? Got to say I rather like it.

As a fan of this Capri and a big fan of Bruichladdich (just finished a bottle of ressurection in the same colours) I wholeheartedly vote yes for that!

looks like a good start, but I've seen your top skills with the pinstripe tape (Super Minx bonnet & previous Escort flames) and I've always loved the swage line down the side of the Mk1 Capri - do you think you could combine the two and include some kinda snazzy pinstripe design down the sides??? Almost like the black lines in the pic you posted but in white to make them really pop...?? I wouldn't know where to start with photoshop-ing something together ubt I can't help but think this is a good opportunity to do something really creative and unique (other than building the car in the first place of course! :-P )
Perhaps you could speak with Bruichladdich and ask if they would pay you to be a rolling advertisement for them??

A clever white version of the swage lines on the Capri like on the new Bentley could work? Obviously not so many (though they are so very clever on the Bentley, which isn't normally a brand I compliment a lot)...

Yes! exactly like that, possibly a bit more "pin" and a bit less "stripe" than that example because I think the creases on the Capri are a bit sharper already but yes, something to accentuate the details... I'm sure between the two of you you'll be able to come up with something creative and awesome, there's not too much of a rush (yet) :-)

Totally I agree with you guys, it's a really good idea. Was stood looking at it just the other day musing about the Bentley stripes idea. Think it'll look really good, but will take a bit of fiddling around with the masking tape to get it looking right. A nice little job for the future. Next step though, is to move into my new unit! Photos when I get the keys this weekend

So not been upto a lot on the Capri, though I did finally track down the front end knock to a rose joint. Made a hell of a noise for something that I couldn't find any obvious movement in off the car. Anyway now that's sorted I'm enjoying driving it a lot more. Apart from needing the suspension setting up, I'd say its basically shaken down. So time to get it mostly stripped for paint. But before that I've got to move all my curse word (that's a lot of stuff!) into my new unit! ;D At last I'm going to have somewhere that's not only got a flat floor and is weatherproof, but is only 2 mins away from home! Properly excited about it. So far I've cleaned it up and painted the floor. Rubbish photo as really need a wide angle lense, but it's looking pretty good so far. Now I just need to build a bench, get some shelving, build a guard rail for the mezzanine and move in. And look for a cheap 2 post lift (at this rate I'll never pay off the credit card bill!)

That unit looks like a good find, especially so close to the house!! Think you'll manage to have space for all your stuff and still be able to move around / work on stuff in there??
Sounds like good progress otherwise, glad you found the suspension knock and it was nothing too serious!!

Please don't tell me that your unit is based next to a certain Lotus Specialist and a Pug one as well? I was eyeing up their units years ago. I cannot wait to see the car upon it becoming more presentable .

Cheers guys Please don't tell me that your unit is based next to a certain Lotus Specialist and a Pug one as well? I was eyeing up their units years ago. It's not actually, it's a place out on it's own on a pretty big farm site. Not really had time to do anything on cars, as been building stuff like this (big thanks to Alex1380 for all the help ) Still moving stuff (joy!) and got a load of warehouse rack to collect now. Will get back to the cars soon, don't worry!

With the backing board on and the plug on the front it really looks the business. once you've got the vice on the corner and other bits and bobs be all good to get building. Happy to help clean stuff from the old barn to the new place.

So the poor thing has been sat waiting paciently for her turn to come round, and now Lauren's MK2 is 99% there, it's finally time to start back on this one I have a bit of a to do list going somewhere, but I forget what's on it. One thing I know needs sorting is whatever means turning off the kill switch doesn't stop the engine! I see a few hours of beeping multi-meters and swearing ahead! Mine does that too so when you've worked out I'll be interested!! As well as that my paint man says he might be able to fit me in soon, so will prep things a bit better this weekend I think and hand it over - will give me some space to do the 2.8i which'll be handy to say the least! On the bright side I did get a nice mojo boost today when I found these - funny how pictures from months ago keep surfacing, plus I think they're some of the best of the car I've seen Proper updates to follow! Excellent shots - will have to see if I can brouse that album Looking forward to further progress
