Yup, you then have to go through the whole process of reapplying for a VRM for your pride and joy [you won't be able to drive/park it on the road during this time], and chances are you may end up with a Q-plate.

if your car is pretty much stock then its not going to end up going BIVA, nor can I see why you would you get a Q plate?
I can't even see why for most of us they'd bother withdrawing the registration.
I can see with a kit, rod, heavily modified car there has to be a fear of BIVA and a Q plate. And if you have an expensive "personal" registration you'd be in fear of losing that. But if its just a lowered Golf (for example) on fake German plates with the sequentially issued registration number I can see the concern of a fat fine - but any thing else?

The lad who i sit next to at work has bought a 'personal plate' for his wife's MGZR. Its a 52 reg and he wants to 'use' the 2 as a 'Z' cos his wife's name starts with Z. For several days I've had to listen to him mulling over the ins and outs of moving the 2 close to the other letters, so it says 'zena', but without him getting a tug off the coppers. He seems to be convinced there is a position he can put the 2 in that will give him the word Zena, yet not be sufficiently obvious that he gets a tug. Most number plate sellers have told him to forget it, but one or two have said they'll do it, but how do you communicate to them the minutiae of exactly where o put the 2? I have to say i would literally pi$$ myself laughing inside, if after all the mental anguish he's put himself thorugh over it, he got his numberplate confiscated by the DVLA for his efforts. Find somethign decent to worrry about FFS! Pathetic.

Has this actually ever happened? How would you begin to find out, unless you knew someone it had happened to? Best to assume that it may happen if you run with illegal plates, and weigh up your chances of being caught.

Just interested to know... As soon as I read the first line ' we've heard rumours...'now your saying it's best to ' assume' just wanted some facts that's all. I thought ACE might have some.

I'll add it to the list of things I'm putting on my freedom of information request to the DVLA

Thank you. Not trying to stir things up it's just that I saw quite a few newly registered cars at the hayride at the weekend which leads me to think things aren't as bad as some quarters would lead us to believe. This has gone far enough off topic so ill shut up now.

Sorry, to clarify, when I said "it's best to assume", I meant assume that if you run illegal plates, and you are caught, you will have your VRM removed. In reality, you may just get a ticking off and told to fix it, or you may get a fine. However, the DVLA rules are very much a reality, find below the excerpt from the DVLA Guide Form V796 - Display of Registration Marks for Motor Vehicles. www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/~/media/pdf/leaflets/V796.ashxOffences
Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn.

This has gone far enough off topic so ill shut up now. If you click on the ACE link re nukber plate regs you will see a statement issued by David Whitbread , DVLA Press Officer, of course he could be making up press statements ? For those who haven't checked the link , here's the press statement ith David Whitbread of DVLA and received the following reply: - "Thank you for your e-mail and I trust that the following information will be useful. DVLA takes the issue of misrepresented registration marks seriously. Vehicle keepers must now provide photographic evidence within 28 days that a registration mark is being correctly displayed, otherwise the mark is withdrawn and added to the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) stop list. Repeat offenders will have their marks withdrawn without 28 days notice. Intelligence sent to DVLA is used to select number plate suppliers for DVLA compliance visits. This will allow us to raise awareness, gather evidence and, where appropriate, prosecute offenders. You may also find the following background information useful. The process is supported by the use of a proforma, used when police colleagues pursue a misrepresented registration mark offence. The offence report must be accompanied by a photograph of the number plate. The vehicle registration mark itself, as it should be displayed, must also be clearly recorded. Best regards, David David Whitbread " Re freshly registered cars If you speak to some of these guys with fresh regs they may admit to having spoken with ACE reps for advice. Some have been bult using teh DVLA 8 points regs with assistance from understanding clubs. Others may have circumvented regulations because what is said to be happening IS happening. This is an open forum and ACE is not in the business of doing DVLAs work for them but we can access almost all the info they can. ACE puts up articles with links and facts in them ,there would be little point bother as otherwise it's just spreading rumours and scaremongering. We know much that is due to happen but until we have provable facts we can't , and won't, disclose the info.

Sorry Adam, must have missed that , what was it ?
EDIT Sorry found it . I've not heard of anyone yet but doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I'd guess most people wouldn't own up ?
As for losing registrations from DVLA inspection, then yes, 3 this month have spoken with ACE for help.
If you PM me via R&S I'll give you a number so we can chat if you want ?
