Ciao Retroisti..... Last weekend while vistiting with relatives in Skåne (south Sweden) there was an old lady relative who was going to stop driving (since she had just turned 88) and she offered me her Audi 60 2 door that she bought new in 1966. I had a quick look at the car (no camera) and it looked quite nice, covers on stock seats (looked mint under), never repainted and some small bubbles in front fenders, 100.000km on the odo, perfect chrome, no rust, just tested at Bilprovningen (Swedish MOT) with a clean paper, coloumn shift ( ) and sure it could be a cool driver with a touch up of the green (almost BRG) paint, cleaned vinyl roof, slightly lowered on a set of Fuchs but I don't know anything about these cars, what motor??? gearbox??? PCD? how do you lower it??? how do they drive??? What do ya all know about it? DP says: Never been into these cars but it's hard to turn an old lady down......

darrenw in da house: but this is one of my faves
That's the one that came to mind when "the old lady" asked me to take a look at her car in the garage, it's sooooooo cool....

Same here but after som surfing on the Swedish DKW/Audi Club site I know as much as the 60 was the first Audi with 4-stroke motor and it's a 1.7L Mercedes developed motor (done during the DKW - Benz period), it's available in 60hp, 75hp, 80hp & 90hp versions therefore the badge Audi 60, 70, 80 & Super 90 on that car, the body is basically the DKW F102 with some modifications available in 2 & 4 door and there's also a 3 door wagon that would make a cool "sedan delivery".....
DP says: It has a front bench seat, coooool.....

Sure but.....
It's a bit like this, if I feel I want it and can do something with it (finding time) I'll pick it up and give here something symbolic for it, if I don't feel like I can do something I'll tell her to sell it and get some cash for it, there must be a bunch of collectors interested in a car like that.....
DP says: Gotta do the righ thing.....

Wow... used to have a couple of them; very nice cars, but they look better than they drive. Due to the heavy engine on the front, they have a very "american" steering; test drive it and you know what i mean; working on them can be a nightmare, the engines are ok, but a bit noisy (the journalists verdict in the sixties :"very cultivated engine - for a diesel..."; shame its a petrol engine) . Lowering at the front is one of the easiest things to do; they have adjustable torsion bars, which means with a ratchet this is done in a few minutes; the rear is also torsion bars, but a bit more complicated .... parts are very hard to source; Audi don't remember its past ; front fenders are often rotted away and you can hardly get used ones (not to mention new ones); if, they are expensive....
Performance: the top of the line engine was the 1,9l "Super 90" with 90 BHP; with a few modifications the 1,9l 112 BHP engine from the first Audi 100 can be fitted; still too fast for the suspension/steering.... but a nice cruiser....
The engine is a bit noisy, has the cam shaft not in the head and is (despite of the 1,9l) bullet proof... this engine was converted into an OHC engine for the Mk.2 Audi 100, it then had 2,0l and 115 BHP... this engine was also used in the VW LT vans (75BHP and fuel consumption like a muslce car) and the first Porsche 924s.... PCD: Not sure, but i think 4/130....
in 1995 a "Variant" was given to me, 10 years ago only about 50 Variants were left; this example was unbelievable rotten, even holes in the roof... i planned to restore it, found out, that i have to be 120 years old to finish and then scrapped it....
My heart is still beating for these cars; compared to their classic feeling and looks, they are not so expensive... i am still a member of the german owners club of these cars, so if you buy it and need assistance, let me know....

One of my favourite pics ever robbed from here. I would seriously be interested in coming to Sweden and driving it back if you want to sell it, I've looked at loads on German ebay but always been put off by no personal inspection... Bryn says in a DP stylee : Do it. ;D
