Don't like stretched tyres, very low profile tyres & I think a car CAN be too low. Perhaps I'm odd.

My Rover 75 with the b****y BMW engine is playing up.
It is reluctant to start, requiring cranking eben on a warm day. Has rough idle. Then it smokes clouds of grey until given a good run out then it clears and runs well.
So Far I have done the following:
Cleaned MAF Cleaned EGR cleaned inlet manifold out. replaced intercooler O rings Cleaned PCV filter replaced oil replaced oil filter replaced air filter replaced fuel filter performed leak back test on injectors by removing small pipes and cranking over. No more than a drop or two from the tops.
Running out of ideas now and need to take it to France in 5 days!!

I'm not a common rail expert, but it's always worth changing the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor on an ECU controlled engine with warmup issues.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Check that the lift pump in the tank is working and you have 3 bar going into the high pressure pump. Take the trim off under the wipers and remove the ecu along with the heater plug relay . The drain holes block up leaving the ecu half submerged in water look for a tide mark .
Also I've had issues with the pins on the rail pressure sensor going slack and giving odd readings . A scanner would give you some idea where to look

Neighbour had a BMW with, I assume, same engine. He had loads of troubles. The inlet has some sort of flaps that can break up and get sucked into engine causing serious damage. Easy, and no detriment, to remove them. Also injector harness is a seperate item (around £30) and a common source of problems (heat damage affecting insulation ?)

My money is on the pump pipes, check flow and return pipes in rear lift pump, in my garage we have had 2 similar cases i can vaguely remember on 75's. I do remember an RAC guy dragging one in a long time ago, saying...it was a common fault.............
