I bought A10WUN ( a low 'un ) a while back, and intend to put it on the new Benz. Now, it's a left hooker, a German import infact, so I reckon I may get away with it for a while - thought about ordering a set of these: I know that they do have the right to revoke the plate, but I think that is the extreme - I guess they will just tell me to remove them. But then, they probably won't bother stopping a car that looks German anyway unless I drive like a prat (which doesn't happen too often these days) Comments?

Hi scrapingscrap, Gotta be worth a try! Grow yourself a dodgy moustache to lend an air of Germanic authenticity. How many rozzers would work that out anyway.

I drove around with Swedish plates on my van for about 6 months. Then again it wasn't registered in the UK. Was also good if you got lost when driving, you could pretend to be foreign and get away with loads of dodgy moves

When I imported my 411 from Finland I had to hand the plates back so I made some from white cardboard and some sticky letters. Went to a couple of car shows like that too ;D I still haven't got it registered and I've had the car two years ..Next year....maybe...

To be honest, while I think it's a top idea and I like the German plate, it's not that imeadiately readable as "a low un" on that plate. It just looks like a normal german rego at a glance so I doubt many people will spot it, if any. Which kind of missed the point of having it ;D

I like the reg! Like Ratdat says it may be more readable as "A Low Un" in UK plates, but those German plates look cool! On the subject of making number plates, I wanted some black and silver ones for my Merc but it's a couple of years too new (has to be pre-73), so I made some! I collected all the letters I needed from old motors in the scrappers (those old style 3-D letters) and stuck em to a sheet of ally. Painted it up with some black and silver and hey presto! New old plates Had 'em for over a year and nobody's bothered me yet. The other alternative was those new style plates with the new font which looks curse word on an old car IMHO.

Funny, I saw a Merc just like that in my home town, cruising around The Orangefield Cafe in Greenock, does your Merc have Glasweigan tendencies?

It doesn't look right with correct spacing, so if I'm gonna go illegal, it may as well be different! See what you mean though Eddie. Different plates for different moods maybe...

Maybe you could have them so that they flip over to reveal a different plate like in the James Bond films! ;D
Or not.

Ha! I like the revolving plate idea! My Merc wasn't in Glasgow - although seeing them around is getting more and more infrequent now. I've only ever seen five or six in (the metal) since I bought it!

Standard style (no fancy typeface or hologaraphic/3D nonsense) plates get my vote...2 sets though: A 10W UN and A10 WUN
Velcro fastenings would be handy: "sorry officer...I forgot to take them off after the show...I'll do it now, the others are right here in the boot"
