My missus has just bought a mint - and I mean mint - Y-reg 244 DL with a genny 39,000 on the clock for £500. Yes, it's an auto, but it has all the history, a factory sunroof and a Volvo stainless steel exhaust. It was parked at Rally Supercar Day in the punters' car park for anyone who might've seen it... What's more, the owner threw in another one, the same age and with 73,000 on the clock for free, saying it was a good parts car. Thing is, when I started cleaning four year's mildew off it, and cleaning up the interior, you could see that this was a really good car that needs saving. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I think I'll get it back on the road - definitely lowered - but should I go for some T5 wheels?

I dunno..I think the old 244 would look better with some deep dished kind of rims but T5's would be better than stock, especially if it's slammed ;D

I've got a set of old school keystones that would bolt on but they are so deep dished I think they'd stick out of the arches too much. Odd PCD but there are a few things that might fit. www.tyresave.co.uk/fitments.htm

Ooh! that's really cool BUT!... there's only two Datsuns listed and one of those is wrong! (Datsun 2000 is five stud) Would one care for a comprehensive list? ;D

Oh, I'm dead jealous, two rare retro Volvos! I fitted a set of T5 wheels on a 940 2.3 once, and think it looked very nice, but on a 244 I'm not sure, possibly not dished enough and a little tall, being 16" and needing low profile tyres (which I don't mind telling you are bloody expensive!)
Oh, and why is the Moggy Minor listed as an Austin? I know the later Minor Vans and Pickups were badged Austin, but aren't Morris Minors more normal?

Not the clearest of pics but look at this: Minilights are always good. I think these are Saab wheels?

I think you're right, SAAB wheels. You know, 240 GLT five spokes aren't bad, and should fit on no problem.

I think these 15" multispokes are nice. They come from the 760/780. I really want a 780. It's basically just a 2 door coupe model of the 760, and has the 3.0 V6 and full leather interior, air con, and all the rest.

The back end of that kinda looks like the Maserati Biturbo, not at all like an eighties Volvo. Any relation? Same stylist?

Very good, it was a Bertone design! Didn't Bertone do the 262C as well? I like those

That must be a very late 244 on a 'Y' plate.... seem to remember my old mans 240 was 'Y' reg. I had '79 244 a while back.... made the classic mistake of buying it from a workmate without looking at it.... dreadful car ... but I'm sure that was just that particular one, and I did only pay £150 for it....
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Any abused car will give you trouble. The 240 series is great, and looks nice too. My Grandad swore by them, and had about four of them, between Chevettes, Capris, and the like.
