I have recently put a 3.9 v8 in my mgb, unknown history of the engine as it came from a breakers (out of accident damaged car) but looked to have been a fairly recent rebuild, very clean heads, freshly painted block and when I swapped the sump over everything looked nice and fresh.
However, when it was delivered it had no plugs in it and a small amount of rain water went down the bores, so I quickly drained out as much as I could and chucked plenty of oil/wd40 down there to minimise any corrosion.
When I came to turn the car over a few months later there was a certain amount of resistance when turning it over by hand using the bottom pulley, but I slowly rocked the pulley by hand and its freed off nicely and no nasty noises.
I have spun the oil pump on the drill and it gets great oil pressure and compression seems fine on each cylinder.
But I keep worrying about that water, is it likely to have caused much/if any damage? as i'm not in the position to get it started yet to find out....
