Hi all, I need some help with several issues mostly related to water and the bob cosworth engine. Firstly does anyone know where I can get hold of a water pump? Most motor factors list as having them but on closer inspection they turn out to be the 12v ones which fit the older 24v cossy but not the newer one (1994 onwards, out of the Scorpio). This is proving very hard to find. Ford can get it but its £230 odd and I just don't have the moneys! Secondly, it also seems to be leaking water from the bypass hose. Happens to be the most difficult to access hose in the world! Does anyone know how to get to it. It looks as though the complete inlet manifold has to come off and I have no idea how to do that And last but not least, where on earth do they mark the engine number on the bob 24v 2.9 cossy engine as I can't find it anywhere and need it for the v5 to change the cc's. Unfortunately I don't have the original v5 for the car the engine came out of so need to find where its stamped but have had a look around and can't find nought! Hope you lot can help, tearing hair out as not long till RR gathering and the Cortina's supposed to be there! Thanks all in anticipation, you've all been great help so far.

If the inlet manifold is anything like my Mondeo it will be designed to come out with 'relative' ease, since it will also be obsuring other things. The water pump I cannot say much about but I would waiting for the responses from NightmaresRacing, PUT, and SOC .

what hose are you calling the bypass hose? The one that goes through the head? If so they are £17 new from ford and easy to fit. Although not done one on a BOB only a BOA. Water pump sounds like fun! pretty easy on the BOA.

Yeah that's the hose. On the BOB engine it looks a nightmare to get to. Inlet manifolds n all need to come off just to get to a hose! Poor design if you ask me. I've had a look at the Scorpio sight but the manuals from Ford are quite limited. Does anyone know if the inlet manifolds have torque settings for the bolts or is it just tighten them up as you go?
As for the water pump I'm still looking for one but they are very hard to come by.
Also still can't find the engine number. Does anyone know how many digits it should be? There is a long number printed in the inlet manifolds but not sure if that's the one. Ends in AA and is about 8 numbers long.
This is the later BOB engine out of the frog eyed scorpio.24v 2.9
Cheers, George

oh B@*"Ks! The search will contine then. Found a supplier of water pumps but there in Spain!! a lot cheaper than the price from ford but looks to be a lot more difficult to "communicate" with them. Now i just need to work out how to get it.

I'll look for the engine number on one of mine this afternon. "normal" cologne engines have it near the distributor (back of block). Water pump - as far as I know, ford part only and as you know, expensive. I have changed one on the car, it isn't too bad to do. Bypass hose is indeed a big pita, and BOB gaskets are also eye wateringly expensive.

I've managed to get some gaskets from essex engines, worked out at half the price comparied to Ford. They do sell the complete gasket kit for £250 but thats beyond my current bank balance. So far i've manged to buy for £48.70; One bypass hose from ford 'O' rings from ford 2 inlet manifold gaskets from essex 1 Water pump gasket from essex Now I just need the pump! have found one chap on Ford Scorpio.com who can repair them so that is my last ditch effort as would like a new one and in spain they cost 111 euro so not to bad it just depends on postal costs and if they can understand my emails or not!! Thanks for having a look for the engine code. Its such a meaningless thing yet i've really struggled to find it and now the engine is in the car its much more difficult to see. As said, I'm going to borrow the misses make-up mirror as it should reach behind.

Had a look this afternooon - firstly normal cologne engines have the engine number on the right side of the block (looking from the front) just forward of the engine mount, it's the essex that has it on the top of the block at the back. The 24v engines have the number stamped on the right hand rear end of the block, just below the head. autofive kindly took a picture to illustrate which I will post when he emails it to me. Bad news is you absolutely cannot read this number on an engine that is already in the car

Bad news is you absolutely cannot read this number on an engine that is already in the car Take a 'brass rubbing' of it? Good luck if you try that! There is a huge twin cam head above and a bulkhead about 1/2" behind it, even though I knew where it was I couldn't even reach the flat bit with a fingertip to feel it. This is on a BOB in a scorpio, I'd expect a retrofit to be even tighter.

Had a look, think I've found it! Luckily I think I've got more room to peer around in the cortina than the Scorpio! Is it 3 numbers a dash then 4 numbers followed by 2 letters?

It should be 2 letters, 5 numbers, no dash.

off the top of my head it was 909-M-6015-AA.
Its stamped on the block at the back right (as you look at the engine from front of the car) right where the head joins the block. I can just about get my head in there but the numbers are bloody dirty so its hard to see.

Here's the pic I promised, there are actually two numbers stamped on this bit - The engine number is in a larger font and at the top, there is an engine code below it (that might be the one you have read)

Thanks for the pick, that will really help. Thats the one place its going to be hard to see because i have the heater matrix right behind. sods law. I think with the miss's pocket mirror and a few hoses removed i should be able to get a look in.
i will report back! off to the Isle of Wight this weekend so might not be able to look until monday but will let you know. so close!!
