sound good, big stupid smog trails suck though.
if that didnt smog whatever was behind it, i'd drive that happily. sounds cool. looks not fast but I'm sure it is fast. i think the lack of screaming engine confuses me into thinking it isnt fast

Pertty difficult to avoid the smog trails, the Audi R10 diesel le mans car has a couple of particle filters on the exhaust to make it look acceptable!

here it is on the dyno, a little easier to see the power! videos.streetfire.net/search/diesel/2/1A19D9E9-242C-429A-986E-42141AA261AF.htmYeah all that smoke is there to cool the exhaust temperature, this is the critical part of the diesel cycle, as the air fuel ratio for petrol engines. Unfortunatly due to some chemical process, 1% too much fuel over a certain limit produces 50% more smoke or something like that. The audi has particulate traps, but they must be darn clever. The ricardo catapillar entry that used the V10 tourag engine had them, and it pack them full in two laps! J

Teh audi ones must have a regeneration cycle, the have a little low-temp internal bonfire and oxidise the soot deposits into something (more or less) harmless.

Some of the diesel pickups the yanks are racing now are mental. Gale Banks set a land speed record in a diesel Dodge Ram. JCB are building a LSR car with dual diesels and aiming for the 300 MPH line with it.

I was fascinated by the turbo diesel class in Malta, 11 second front wheel drive Fiesta anybody? Far cheaper to build than a petrol counterpart too...

jeez that's impressive.... i quite like the way the diesel smoke mixes with the tyre smoke though, if you weren't 'on the ball' you'd think there was a giant ghost of a panda just landed on the road.

Awsome stuff - though the black smoke does look rather silly - a bit like an evil Red Arrows display team I love big powerful diesel engines - I like the lazy way they drive, and the way you can tonk along, covering vast distances whilst returning great fuel economy I had a tweeked BMW 325 TDS (larger 5 series intercooler, hybrid turbo, superchips remap & custom Scorpion exhaust) It was the way it accelerated so effortlessly yet by the rushing past of the outside world you knew you were making progress. It sounded cool aswell - from the front you had the usual diesel clatter but from the exhaust you got the great 6 pot tune accompanied by the chomp/chomp of the turbocharger. Best bit was that was that it did between 40 & 50 mpg. It was certainly a car that changed mine and many passenger's views on diesel cars. Would love to have a drive in one of the new twin turbo 535d Bee Ems
