Rah! after fiddling trying to fix my leccy windows for hours, i missed out on some criminally cheap wheels for the '2 last night by one minute! Now i cant get any, don't worry i'm not gonna nick some but i'd hate to have em nicked off me. Do locking nuts work? Nothing is 100% theif proof is it, but what will keep them away? bearing in mind some wheels are silly money! spent £20 on my last lockers from speedshack Comments, reccommendations...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I have always got locking nuts for my motors, they do act as a deterant but how effective they are to someone with a bit of time is unknown to me.

My thoughts
DO NOT get the three hole versions (three holes in the lcoker and 3 pins in the tool) - total rubbish as the pins round off after a few uses!!!
The ones that have an M25 circuit map grooved into em and a proper key with the same map raised up are pretty bomb proof and much better IMHO
As a general rule I don't use lockers but then appart from the other halfs Polo which has BBS split rims on it - my cars run 5 x 110 or 5 x 120 PCD and aren't very desirable to the common scroat round her as saxo's, fester's, Korsa's and 106's don't share the same PCD

Arggh bought the wrong ones already then but as the car wearing them isnt a track car i shouldn't have to change much!
I'd be nervous having no lockers unless it was a track only type car. Trying to find wheels for the MR2 that are not so stealable but once they are shot in Yokos even stellies will be worth £'s M25ers it is then if i hunt down some suitable wheels!

Lock nuts with an Assymetrical pattern work best. I have some on my C110 where the locking nut only fits on the one way and would slip on the 5 other ways you think it's on. There's always a way around them but if you try to not get the oes that every other curse word gets then you should be alright. Which can be hard to do.

I have wheel nuts with a strange shape to them (star shape I suppose) and they come with a tub with the hex shape for a spanner on the outside. You don't need a key obviously, and I keep the tube that you need to remove the bolts in the car.
Of course, the pro wheel thief may carry round a large spanner with a star shaped fitment instead of a hex fit but I doubt it.

Get McGuard - they're the ones with the 'ring road' shape sunk into the bolt, and a corresponding raised bit on the inside of the unlocking device. I've got those on the mongdeo, wheels have been on and off loads and never had any problems. They're highly rated by most, clubpolo were doing group buys on them a while back.
I had the three-prong ones on my beetle, they sheared the first time I needed the wheels off. Even more worryingly, it only took the garage five minutes with a drill to get all four of them off - and battery drills for use in the street outside your house ain't hard to come by!

If you get the 'ringroad' ones, try and get ones with a collar that is not solidly attached to the nut. Otherwise they can just run a thread down the outside and undo it with a slightly larger nut, if you see what I mean.

PS Just had this with my company car, and apparently even the top rated ones are no match for a fella with a drill and time on their hands.

I trusted speedshack to send me good uns. I worry some one will break in to find key too so i remove it most of the time, made that mistake with the xr2 and lost it on the first day!

Those ones with three ‘prongs’ are utter rubbish, I reckon they are made of dairylea, I had to faff about for yonks with a dremel after one of mine ‘rounded’ off leaving me unable to get the wheel off my Rover 820.

I would add that it took me a very quiet 45 secs to remove one from a car a month or so back when the key had been damaged - no drilling required 1 x breaker bar 1 x short extension bar 1 x

i have some with four hardened steel pinsm and they have lasted me for years now, not a hint of a problem. The goo thing is that the centre is small enough that it wont have enough leverage to remove them with a threaded tool, still can be drilled though i suppose.
Just weld them on!

Hmmm, well i wouldnt like to own some of those big blingy rims!
I saw a few smart wheeled motors on bricks during my stay in Leeds 6, hence the paranoia! one was across the road from my house there, heard the clink of a spanner but thought nowt of it.

stick with old rims.... i had my American Racing Mags on my beetle then my fastback outside the house for years, after the locking bolts buggered up i just put standard ones back in. Nobody touched them cos they looked manky, yet Kinky Mick is selling some unrestored ones for £550
