Got some more work done today, i wore gloves and goggles and phil has pics of me which he will surely post up tomorrow lol. Started cleaning up the inside of the arch which was coming up nicely with a fiber wheel on the grinder But then something came up..... The other side of the arch is the same!!! So thought may as well get that side cleaned up to see the extent of it, not as bad as the back but will mean cutting another chunk out. Obviously the first bit we have already cut out will have to be welded before the rest get's cut out or it my not take it's own weight Then we thought while were at it the outer also looks like it's on it's way to rustdom so took all that back to bare metal but it seems we caught the outer well in time cause it's solid as a rock. The plastic panel was fibreglassed on so I'll clean that up before it goes back on, All in all this means my car won't be on the road as soon as i'd hoped, it'll probably be spring now cause I wanna do the other side too which will be the same no doubt. To keep me interested I'm gonna be carrying on with the stickering up and wheels etc. Wish me luck!

Good luck - my manual turbo had gone in exactly the same areas and had 2 massive plates boshed over the top - not an ideal repair!

Ouch, not good. I want to get this as factory as possible with possibly the addition of filling the seam with weld to protect it a little. Did you get it sorted out?

I sold the car for spares after a HG failure - if I'd have kept it, I'd have ground off the plate, made new repair patches, and butt welded them in nicely. A bit like this (the car pictured is a Manta and the repair area lower down on the car, but the principal of the repair is the same)

As per requests I suppose I'd better give you all an update. What with xmas and bad weather and no transprt to get to where the car is stored I have not been able to do much terrible excuse I know! What I have done from the comfort of my sofa is buy a Cusco roll cage very reasonably priced as it has been cut in half, I don't plan on using it for competition so no issue for me. Pics when it arrives! I have bought these, following a suggestion that mine may twisted, they always have leaked no matter what I do!. As they are off an NA car I will be relocating the coil pack to the bulkhead. Plans for these is rub them down to get all the casting marks off and see if I can get a brushed finish with some scotch brite and then painting all the grooves with the same blue as I have done the old ones in. I have also got myself some new rad brackets as I modified the last ones with a big hammer to fit an alloy rad and now I'm back to standard but there's no going back with the old brackets these will also be blue. I have aquired some more cam pulleys which have been blasted and primed for me which will again be painted blue before fitting. Finally, as soon as I can get them there, the remaining 3 wheels will be going for professional painting as I want them on the car asap and painting with rattle cans in the cold just doesn't work very well due to incredibly slow drying times! I had this problem when I painted the boot lid when there was snow outside and the paint just sagged cause of how long it had to wait to dry. This Saturday I will be getting a full day on it, I intend on getting the front wing back on as it looks very sad with it just hung in place and I may also fit my new oil cooler pipes so it doesn't drop oil like hansel and gretle dropped bread crumbs lol. Lots of pics to come, especially as I got a new camera for Christmas!

Hi all, I got some work done finally today! Decided to sort the power steering fluid leak out as that was causing some serious coating on the inside of my wheel which is never good as all the dirt sticks to it quite well! I bought a new hose from Toyota, the suspect was the one that comes directly out of the bottom of the resevoir and down into the pump. Getting it off was a pig but apart from a tear in it that I made getting it off it looked in pretty good nick! When fitting the new hose I relaised that the problem was actually the hose clamps (presumably the original toyota ones) they are the springy type and must be a bit slack after all these years as they weren't holding it on very well! So I swapped these... for these and cranked them up. I wasn't able to test it properly but so far it looks leak free Then I gave the engine bay a good wipe down and prepped my rad brackets for paint! More on those soon!

I'm griped by frenzied Supra lust right now. Anybody want to buy an S12 ? Link to car and price? Although I'm reading this because I too have a great urge to buy a Mk3 Supra. It's a close tie between this and an E30, but I think the Supra's winning at the moment. Anybody want to buy a Viva? Loving the work, keep it going and the updates coming

Thanks you should definately get a Supra! Once you have had one though there will be no going back, they hook you in and keep you forever!

Those spring clips are the bane of my life. I cannot put into words just how much I dislike them. Especially when they've been fitted by a numpty so you can't actually get to the bits to release them. Anyway, glad to see you're getting there with it. I have also wanted one of these for ages, but the Rx7 is still winning that particular battle in my head/heart I'm afraid!

They are awful! I need at some point to go round every breather and measure up for replacements, after that all the spring clips will be gone!

I do like those GE cam covers much more than the 'non wordy' GTE equivalents.
Personally I would just freshen them up, don't paint 'em blue or anything
Nice hat and overalls combo btw!

lol thanks, I don't plan on painting the whole lot blue, just inside the ribs and lettering. The rest will have a brushed finish with some high temperature laquer to keep it nice

Hi again, I've done a bit more over the weekend, got it out looking like this cause I've been playing with the lights. I think I will have to get it a sleepy eye kit at some point lol Anyway I thought I'd better get cracking on the stuff to get it an MOT so I refitted the front wing (left over from the wiring job) this didn't go that easily as it was resting in place and has 2 studs coming out the nose cone and into the wing but I didn't have the balls or strength to get it off again so I ended up calling a mate who came over and made me look like a big girl pulling it off in one when I'd spent a good 30 mins scratching my door with it! I could have just left it in place but there was one bolt that had sheared and I needed the wing off to get the stub out Anyway once I had some brute force handy it went back on fine I also was going to get my battery clamp back on (also down to a sheared bolt!) but that one wouldn't come out so I got a bit of bunjee cord insted That was it really for this weekend as the majority of car time was spent changing the head gasket and waterpump on Phil's SD1. Now that's working ok though it'll be time for the supra to get some love in the form of welding!

Yay! i got some stuff to report! so you know I painted one of my wheels white well I have since had the other's powdercoated! (was gonna take far too long to paint them by hand and I got mates rates so not too bad). They are a slightly darker white than the one I painted but that doesn't matter cause once I've finished with them you'll not tell and I quite like having at least one that's my own hard work! anyway here are the fresh wheels that I picked up yesterday They have done a great job and the powder does well to cover up the curbing And this is why it won't matter that the colour isn't exact... the painted wheel... I'm loving the effect so the others are gonna get the same treatment and a coat of lacquer in case the splatter want's to flake off! I have orderd new chrome wheel nuts and the centre caps should be going for refurb soon too then it's tyre time when I get paid at the end of the month I also treated myself to this, and a good SH turbo to replace my rebuilt one seeing as it sounds like it's spun a bearing once it's off I'm gonna have it apart to see if my suspicion of a dead bearing it right then if it's not too much expense for a kit I'll rebuild it and keep it as a spare. With any luck some welding should get done soon too. Can't wait to drive it again!
