Oil is not goint to just stop flowing one day, it is going to get gradually more and more expensive, such that many of the uses to which is put today will be considered a waste, and other currently unviable technologies will suddenly seem more appealing and worthy of further development.
The problem as I see it is there are just too many fuggers on the planet and not enough space/resources to keep em all happy.

You do also have to be careful with regards to the whole renewable energy argument when it comes to electric vehicles, as the way the electricity used in the first place has to be factored in to it and very little of that is actually produced from renewable energy. Yup, I get very irritated over this. Was talking to some amateur greenie types recently who couldn't see why an electric bus wasn't (necessarily) a ZEV.

Makes you wonder why plastic is so disposable and packed so much into unnessesary stuff, and hardly ever recycled! that will all slow down. Sobering thoughts all this, in the meantime i'm having a piece of the action, waited long enough for it...
