Sorry this is a week outta date (been fitting new crate motor to my bro's chevelle )but i've got to voice my opinion i attended the vw festival at the last weekend with my mk1 gti as the weather didn't look to sharp i parked it up in the comunial carpark and went for a walk around, low and behold santa pods very own weather system sorted it self out and the track was dry again so i signed on , went back to the car and drove it to the fireup lane on getiing out the car i noticed i'd lost a centre off my bbs splits (fine i thought i'd lost it t**tin around in the car park ) then i noticed the rear on was missing too , and a walk round the other side revieled that some some theiving WA*KER had thieved the hole set off the car AT A CAR SHOW fortunatly i have two at home (which were bought at a show some time ago) but i've still gotta fork out £30 for a pair of second hand ones because some tight C**T can't be arsed to try and buy them Frankly i've become tired of the entire vw scene as its been spoiled by a select few and it seems the best way to keep it safe is to leave it at home , so i will NOT be attending inters , or the festival next year (thease are two events i've always attended and always looked forward to ) on the flip side someone did hand my drivers licence in and i got it back so thankyou whoever that was and thankyou santa pod

Mate, it's always curse word to hear these kind of stories, it's something that is happening in the parking lots of car shows here in NZ increasingly.
4 and Rotary Nationals in Auckland is the worst, literally dozens of nice older, and newer cars are theived every year, I've heard a couple of stories of people even being carjacked just after leaving for their vehicles - one infamous case a couple of years ago involved a very well known and heavily modified Integra Type R, the owner and his partner were parked in a Rest Area a few minutes from the dragstrip, and were approached by a bunch of unsavoury types, and forced to hand over the car, which was later found burnt out so intensely, that the alloy gearbox housing had melted, exposing the internals.
At a recent car show in Wellington I attended (where the Sud also went missing, thankfully only towed) no less than 34 cars were stolen throughout the 2 days of the show, reputedly by a local gang.
It's angering, especially as I am now very hesitant to attend any of these events in either of my cars, the Alfa due to the fact it's carrying some expensive audio equipment, and the Starlet simply because these are a very attractive car theft option in NZ.

It's not exclusive to the VW scene mate. Sadly there's a real scum element attached to the modified car scene and shows are getting worse Parts stolen, cars vandalised. At the last few big Ford shows numerous cars have been stolen.

i hate to hear things like this. i remember a few years back at rtts i was talking to a guy who'd had the chrome trim (all of it) nicked off his zwitter at trevelgue. surely someone saw these acts being performed? i mean, its not the usual thing for an owner to do at a show, remove bits then walk off with them. the culprits should have their balls removed with a rusty cleaver. it makes you think though. i left the windows down on my sec for the whole day at C.a.R.S and went wandering off.

a guy i know had his very expensive toolkit stolen from the pitlane, at the d1gb licensing event, and that was with pitlane security who just let any old jack&jill in..useless.
luckily everyone in the "scene" donated some money and got him a new toolkit for work the following week.
shame some people see it as their right to take other peoples stuff.

A friend of mine had his Beetle stolen AT BugJam a few years back. How anyone can steal from their own scene is beyond me.
Thieves suck.

That's crappy news . I know the feeling well - coming back to your car and finding something missing... it's happened to my Mercedes 4 times. And it's not as if it's expensive stuff that's stolen - what's most irritating is that you have to drive around without whatever's been stolen until you find the time to buy some more. Each time I wished I'd have caught them in the act. I wouldn't do much to them, just steal their jeans or something. Not expensive, just f*cking annoying and they'd have to walk around like a tw@t until they bought another pair...

I remember one of our members had a stunning oval nicked from RTTS a few years ago...
I've known people at shows to have things stolen from tents and vans...while they are sleeping IN THEM!.
Thing is, pro thieves target shows, sucks, but happens.
Personally I'd kill em all

These scumbags only attend such events with the explicit intention of going home with someones pride and joy or pieces of someones pride and joy.

I had the centres nobbled off my wheels while the car was in the garage - a 'reputable' BMW specialist no less. They even had the bo11ox to list them as missing on the 'minor thing to report' sheet. Won't be going back there then

Geeez; that stuff happening at NZ shows is a bit extreme I'm afraid that wherever there is a large group/gathering of people, a percentage of those people will unfortunately have criminal tendancies These stories have made me think, my security awareness becomes somewhat laxed when I attend many car shows as you tend to get a feeling that because you are omongst people of similar interest you are also around people of like-minded respect for fellow human beings & their property

Don't miss the shows just because some thieving w*nker stole your caps. After all you could have parked it in a supermarket car park had had them nicked, wouldn't mean you'd never go shopping again There's always going to be scumbags nicking bits off cars,so don't let it f*ck up what you enjoy

Bad news I think if a car is nicked at a show then it is more than likely down to a pro knowing what is going to be there. If parts are nicked then its more likely someone from in the scene !

This is why Friends and I will not attend ‘Big’ vehicle shows and prefer the smaller vehicle shows (which don’t seem to attract ‘Chav’s or have some selfish idiot playing ‘thud’ thud’ music).
Having said all the above we have noticed that there do seem to be little ‘sticky fingers’ with regards to classic military vehicles when we put original equipment (such as an array of ‘classic’ rifles, radios etc that would be associated with the vehicle at the time) on display. e.g. we’ve had the odd empty shell case go missing and in one case we had some yobs try to remove a de-activated Browning Machine Gun (complete with mount) from the back of a Land Rover. Thankfully these chaps were caught in the act by event marshals !

I have been quite lucky with shows 9 years of going to various events and so far only 5 76 balls and 2 center caps of my split rims. The 76 balls all went at RTTS, the centers went missing at this years C.A.R.S, like others have said this is done by a minority and it would have to become allot worse to put me off shows.

The worst thing is i saw some people loitering around the car as i walked up to it but didn't pay to much attention too it or to who they were, but a group of bout 5-7 people it's not exactly descrite, (i wish i'd pay more attention to them so i could find them later and castrate them with a spoon)unfortunately theyudidn't arouse any suspisions unlike some of the scum at shows i'd be far happier to park it in my local tesco's than at a "specialist" show o.k so it may get a parking ding but at least bits wouldn't go missing i'll take the td passat next time no need to worry bout bits going missing , but the strip times 'll be a bit slower ;D

it is sickening to hear stuff like this i've been doing car shows for years and have noticed in the past 5 years or so we have had to make sure our cars are locked when we either turn in for the night or leave the car for any period of time used to be able to leave the keys in the ignition and not worry worst i have lost at the shows has been dust caps but they go missing if i roll the car out of my garage at home for more than 10 seconds they'll even nick the standard ones round my way
