Hmm bit boring for me really. There was a rare Charade Turbo Cabriolet on eBay and just as I was preparing to buy it (about 2 days to go and I was well prepared to get it), this appeared on a Daihatsu message board for sale (original pic off the for sale ad):
It had been left in a garage for nearly 2 years (owner passed away), but other than the interior being full of moss and a dent in the rear door on the other side (got it fixed last year) it was tip top and went from Surbiton to Wakefield with absolutely no problems, bit of an epic trip for my first non-instructor drive.
It hasn't let me down yet, the thing that surprised me most is how mint it was once I started cleaning it up. It even had the original Daihatsu floor mats. I was told the owner absolutely cherished it and longed to get better so they could go for a drive in their "little car" again. It's in good hands at least!
I learned more and more about it once I got it home (still discovering things). In the Japan Mira Classics are rare, Mira Classic Turbos are super rare and Mira Classic Turbo 4WDs are like Daihatsu gold dust so any contact from Japan has always been with surprise. I even got a little shout out on a Japanese site about it which made my day ;D - www.geocities.jp/mira_saito/k-amigo/dan_l510s.html
Asides from sorting it out, it hasn't seen much other than the addition of a HKS filter and HKS Super SQV Blow-off valve. It's difficult to find the right parts for it because the 3 cyl turbo is quite obscure and there's 1 4WD Mira for about every 10 2WD ones, so suspension parts etc. awkward too! It is going to be treated to a new exhaust from Japan in a few months (for a Daihatsu Move SR-XX, but it'll fit) and lots of other goodies. I can't bear to change the cheesy looks but I'd love to see a drop in the suspension (finally sourced some full suspension setups at nearly a grand a pop!!) and a set of Watanabes or Hayashi Street Fins. And maybe some yellow spotlamps.
