you'd need a matching 3ltr box they also had a bigger radiator on mk2/3 capri's. the 3ltr were supposed to have 138 bhp but were more like 125bhp and you'd prob's be better off with a tuned 2ltr tbh but the v6 sound the dogs danglies with a decent exhaust which you would also need

I think you need to change the Xmember as well cos the engine mounts are in a differant place.

you will need:
engine and box 3ltr starter 3ltr propshaft 3ltr engine crossmember 3ltr gearbox crossmember 2nd set of passenger side exhaust mounts 2nd side to exhaust system or a full aftermarket system 3ltr engine loom (you don't strictly need this you can mod the pinto one but would make life easier) 3ltr coil pack
you don't strictly NEED a 3ltr rad i have seen it done many times with just a pinto rad with no problems, the only difference with the 3ltr rad is a bigger header tank
another optional addition is 3ltr power steering rack

I would add an axle or at very least a CROWNwheel and pinion set to that list - 3.0 capris have a 3.09 final drive, 1.6 has 3.75, and the essex isn't exactly revvy so running it on the 1.6 axle will break the engine quite quickly at motorway speeds.

I did this to a 1600 laser. when my 3.0 ghia rotted out. In addition to the crossmember, some holes need driling in the chassis rails to allow it to fit. the rear most mounting points for the crossmember are the same as the pinto powered ones but the forward ones need drilling further forwards. the dimples are all ready there to show where the holes should be, then bolt up. The only wiring mods I had to do were for the temperature sender. I had to extend it a few inches to allow it to fit. Apart from that, it was changing the tacho for a 6 cylinder one. There are dimples for the centre exhaust hanger that you have to add and don't forget to drill the rear chassis rail for the rear silencer mounting bracket. I used the 1600 5 speed propshaft to replace the knackard 3 one I had and it fitted up a treat with no problems. The 1600 4 speed prop has difference diameter splines and won't fit the 3 litre box. I had an Ashley exhaust system with 3 inch outlets and it sounded like big block muscle car!!! 2.8i L.S.D axle, 3.1 essex, stage 3 heads, steel timing gear and it went like curse word of a shovel!!! Easily out dragged many 2.8i Capri's from the Capri club I was with at the time. Handled well too as it had AVO adjustable suspension. Was Black, very shiny and was striped up with the "s" stripes I loved that car and I really miss it!!!

2.0 pinto onto the 1.6 box was always the "easy" option for more power - re-use your existing flywheel starter and clutch, everything else will fit

I did exactly what SOC has just suggested with the original 4speed box you have to watch the rev counter closely it's easy to redline it but it kept up with my mates 2.8 engined Cortina easily enough

there's something about a proper Kah-pree free lee-ahh which is just plain "right" despite it being technically inferior to the Cologne, Cossie, 302/5.0HO or even odd stuff like maybe a 3.8 V6 from a Mustang. A 3.8 Supercharged V6 from a T-Bird Supercoupe.
I rather fancy putting Ford's 400 BHP "Ecoboost" V6 into a retro RWD car.
