First heard about this, vaguely, ages ago. But back a few months ago when i visited my sister up at Uni in Sheffield, one night we had a BBQ and general student style house party type thing, where i met 2 guys called Hugh and Doug, who told the story alot better with more detail, straight from the horses mouth so to speak. Just been sent the link to the website so i'll let you take a look; www.streetpianos.org/I thought this was a pretty amazing story, so thought i'd share! From what started out as a bit of a laugh has now gained a somewhat cult local status!! ;D

WTF? Just thought it's a good story to share, and there should be more similar natured people and things around. So you don't do general off topic banter then?

Basicly, we don't, no, you can redeem yourself with some kind of retro-ride related image, such as this or this ;D But we try to keep it on topic over at Retro-Rides, otherwise people can fall out over personal opinions etc, and it can get messy

Maybe we need an off topic section, but personally I thought it a cool story. Highly relevant to drivers of old cars which don't have stereos who would appreciate beautiful piano music coming from the roadside.

Maybe we need an off topic section, Nope,.. never ever ever happening. For reasons why see Volkszone. The only way to redeem yourself for posting off topic on Retro Rides is to post pictures of cool cars. Failier to do so will be greeted with thread lockage

I enjoyed it too. I think it's a bit of a shame we don't have an off-topic forum but then I've seen such things turn other forums into tripe on which you have to actively hunt out relevant car threads due to the amount of guff posted.
I think as long as it was a strictly light-hearted off-topic forum- i.e. no political discussions and such (which tend to go on for pages and end up with everyone flaming each other!) then it could work.

I thought that when I came here....But soon realised that the focus and community is what makes retro-rides so great; add an off-topic forum and you remove the focus...and the community suffers.

No to an OT area! To quote a profound statement by Rmad, "They came for the cars, they'll stay for the cars"

We have managed to learn a lot about each other, make new friends and generally enlighten our lives without off-topic banter so far. 205gtmi16, good story by the way...now post some car pics! ;D

[Nope,.. never ever ever happening. Perhaps a nice obvious 'Posting guidelines' sections should be added then, so that new members are actually aware, otherwise it's pretty unfair to be hard on OT posters.

The word was 'obvious'- ie top of the threads in the general section. I was only trying to be helpful.

We've not really come down hard on the poor chap, my reply was very tongue in cheek, as I dare say Penski's was

"She kept hugging me and telling me how brilliant the street piano is. Then she looked into my eyes and sang Aerosmith's "I don't wanna miss a thing". Life is just crazy when you have a musical instrument outside your house."
thats possibly the best quote iv ever heard.
