for my next daily driver spotted over on RodsnSods is this stupendous '63 Pontiac Catalina fresh out of an Arizona junk yard. It has a rebuilt big block Chevy and box sitting in it, but not running. I suspect that means no exhausts, no prop, and probably it'll need brakes and everything too. Not to mention a boot floor, interior and a repaint And its absolutely top of my budget as it sits Yet I can't write it off as not viable. damn there is something wrong with me LOL

its its not painted it will be on the oval track in 5 years. I've seen desert cars rust away when they get over here. In fact I have one in my garage needs much welding for same reason.

Why isn't your 'budget' being used on getting your existing 60's yanks on the road, Al?

Why isn't your 'budget' being used on getting your existing 60's yanks on the road, Al? ah, well, because I was going to buy a car which was on the road and ready to use. And then... Ah. I see.

looks perfectly practical for me Ditto. That's hardly an inappropriate mode of transport for a family man about town like yourself Akku. Its just currently in a slightly awkward condition.

yes, its the condition and location (Essex) which make for the bother.
It needs exhaust manifolds - to suit a big block Chevy in a Pontiac. Maybe Impala ones will fit, maybe not. Maybe they will need fabricating. Maybe the gear linkage will work, its a Rotomatic or somesuch in a '63 and I think the gear selections are in a different order on those to the TH400 it has sort-of fitted now. Modern autos have PRND21 but several old GM autos prefer PD21NR apparently this being better for parking and rocking a car in snow or mud... so it may need a floor shifter or a later column shifter adapting.
Add prop making, brakes redoing, new exhausts making, a set of tyres, an interior and so forth and I fear the costs are well in excess of my current budget x2 LOL
Its not a couple of weekends to sort it out.
