We didn't have 'proms' when I left school, but if we had I hope I would have had the self-respect to not go. They're nothing more than a tacky, brash, vulgar display of materialistic one-upmanship; exactly the opposite of the values children should be being taught. generally I would agree, bloody American ideas ( I hate halloween for similar reasons) but Jordan is very grounded ( probably due to us fostering for seven years, although he's our own son ), He's an A star student and has held down a part time job for the last two years so he's not your average money grabbing lazy teenager. after 6th form he's joining the Royal Marines and is learning life and independance skills by living in a converted workshop in our garden. He pays for everything he wants out of his earnings, phone credit, swimming, football, nights out, he saved up last year to go skiing with the marine cadets, He even bought his own suit for the prom so we thought we would treat him , as it turned out it was quite a cheap treat

We had a prom, it was dire. The most fun part was turning up on BMXs.

I turned up late, completely sloshed in the back of a sevearly beaten up VW Passat with a pocket full of interesting cigarettes and my hand up my girlfriends dress. That was a very low class but good night.

your son sounds well brought up and to have his head screwed on, maybe you should buy him a project for being so good?

trouble is the guy dosent drink, (probably cant afford to as he also runs a 4.2 jag and a discovery) So after a lot of head scratching, we have got hold of a model of a mkIII interceptor in the right colour in a presentation box and had a little plaque engraved saying simply. "thank you from Jordan 14/07/2011" nice one!!! sounds perfect!

When I had my prom back in '99, me and three of my mates chipped in and we had one of these: Was awesome Good call on the Jenson though. There are far too many pink limos and stretch hummers around for my liking. and everyone else trys to go for the Ferrari's, Lambo's & Aston Martins. Need more retros!

the guy who owns it is great , he's not even charging us for his petrol !!! I think a nice bottle of scotch and a warm handshake would be a most befitting gesture here! And probably still cheaper than the petrol LOL ;D

I didn't go to my prom. I got on with the teachers better than anyone in my class.
A large group of my mates at another school clubbed together and rented a Routemaster bus and my mate Darren (who has a PCV license) for the night. I took the pictures for them - it was class, overshadowing almost everything else that turned up in the car park.
Mainly because no-one else could get in. It filled the damn thing. Later on they filled the bus to capacity and gave everyone they knew a lift home. 'Summer Holiday' indeed.
Good call on the Jensen though. Your neighbour sounds like a top gent.

your son sounds well brought up and to have his head screwed on, maybe you should buy him a project for being so good? yeah he's a good kid , moans about having to do the hoovering and washing up but don't they all ? project car is a deffinate , just missed out on a 1.3 jetta that had been standing for ten years to my knowledge , he never used to show any interest in cars then he did an engineering course with the marine cadets and scored 396 out of 400 ,so something must have rubbed off from the old man just sorted out our driveway so am looking into a small engined car for him , possibly a polo , ( would love him to get a breadvan but he prefers saloons )

by the way I turned up for my leavers disco as it was called then on my trusty yamaha FS1E , shows how old I am ( it was 1976 ) My DT50 would never have got me there! Ours was a 6th-form leavers do but back in '96 the whole american style thing hadn't caught on. My old dear taught at my high school so I got dropped off with her by the old man. In his caribic blue Corsa SRi I suppose it would have been. Great pictures of your lad in the Jensen. Looks well chuffed.

Mate of mine in Dublin was chuffed to bits when his niece asked him could he bring her to her graduation in his Mk3 Zodiac I always remember Lenny Henry in his Brixton pirate DJ Delbert Wilkins guise, talking about his car. 'Nineteen-sixty- THREE Ford Zodiac...' ;D May well dig out the YouTube of that later...
