What do the RR massive reckon?  Left side is superficially corroded but nowhere near penetrated, right side speaks for itself. |

Repaint but not resto as such, and the valances are both getting a heavy coat of Gravitex stonechip before the colour goes on..... I have to admit I'm leaning towards patching it too. Once I've rebuild the edge to weld it to of course!

I'd patch it. No one will see the inner and the outer looks reasonably straight forward with no weird bumps or curves to fabricate. Just take your time faffing about with the patch to get a good fit, tidy it up with a flapwheel, stonechip it and no one will know.

fit a new outer to that inner and itll last a year.
that inner is far more concern than the outer, itll need the bottom 2" replacing right the way across for it to not come back and haunt you. if youre gunna go the the trouble do it right- remove outer higher up (for access) replace bottom of inner- looks easy enough, more or less flat from what i can see, then refit outer and patch in missing bit, then gob a laod of waxoil in the cavity to stop it happening again.

I'd be tempted to do the inner panel and then patch on (or get a new rear valance) new metal onto the rear valance.

Hi all - yep I had no intention of leaving the inner as it was - there wouldn't be anything to tack the new outer to for a start!
I think I'll go the route Dez suggested and cut the outer higher to give me better access first. The are isn't particularly visible as it's always shadowed by the bumper, and yes it is reasonably flat. I'll let you know how I get on.

What I meant by no-one will see the inner is it doesn't have to be that pretty. lolz. Defo chop out the rot.

ID put a patch in and grind the welds back, patch the panel behind but make it nice and fill inside with waxoil,.

Patch repair id say. But cut all the rot out first. Seam weld all your patched in knock all the welds back with a flap disc and apply a thin layer of filler to blend it in. Spend enough time on it and youd never no it had been done

Chop along red line with a slitting disk  Separate the outer valance off the inner. Bottom of inner will probably be the same as what's visible so chop the lot off and weld a new section in the whole length of the panel. Clean up the outer valance and weld it back on if it's solid, then fill in the missing bit. If you cut along that swage line you should be able to grind the weld back till its invisible quite easily. If you get plenty of paint inside before you weld the outer on, then fill it with waxoyl it should last forever. Matt |
