Firstly an apology - I've had to do this at work and I can't load 'thanks in advance' photos so can I just ask ..... I have to re-comission an old Landrover fuel tank which is being converted to run on diesel and wonder if anyone has experience of any of the fuel tank sealant kits ? The ones where you pour in the secret formula liquid and it lasts forever ?
Thanks ever so .....

I've not used the tank sealer kits, but I seem to recall a new tank for a LR about £50? For that much it's not really worth messing with a sealer kit,
Not sure if you want to seal it against leaks, or against contamination? If the original tank is fairly sound then a diesel engine won't mind some petrol in the mix.

As above, it's almost as cheap to get a pattern tank as the full kit (at least for a Series).
Sealing kits: Drain juice Put thinners or acetone or whatever in with sharp gravel or nuts bolts etc, shake like billy-o... Loosen scale and rust. Swill out, dry if you like. Etch with acid Swill out, dry 100% In with the glop, moving the tank now & then to spread it evenly.
Takes a good while. Can last a very long time if it's etched and dried and all that properly. Plenty of tales of peeling resin though, probs where it didn't have a good key, or wasn't dry enough etc. Edit, as above, this is assuming it's rusted.

Also, an there was an article in the Sunbeam Alpine OC magazine citing research that any fibre-glass based tank sealants (not sure how common they are any more) can get degraded by the higher ethanol content in modern fuels, leading to blocked carbs and other nasties
