My 67 Triumph 1300 has started giving the odd puff of blue oil smoke from the exhaust. Now I think this is likely to be top end rather than worn bores and rings for the following reasons.
1. The head was off not very many miles ago and there was no appreciable wear in the bores.
2. Is when the smoke occurs. Most of the time the exhaust is clean, but after a heavy overun, i.e. letting the engine keep the speed down on a steep hill when I get to the bottom and touch the throttle it gives a puff of smoke visible in the rear view mirror. In other load conditions it doesn't do it.
The car has no valve stem seals as Triumph didn't seem to think they where needed and also has push fit valve springs (no collets)
A couple of questions.
Is this going to cause big problems if left?
I have heard that pinto valve stem seals can be adapted to fit, anyone know where I could get some and whether it would be possible to fit them without removing the cylinder head again?
