The Stag fires up fine, but IMO it is not quite running on all 8 cylinders. I have checked for spark at the plugs and the other day it was firing OK on some cylinders. I bought a new HT lead, and noticed it the odd firing changed from cylinder to cylinder (or maybe I was going crazy), as I was taking the leads off the plugs
I then proceeded to take the leads off at the cap end. There was a spark present at all 8 cylinders, but the spark was very yellow. Bright, but very yellow. I guess the energy/spark is not quite what it should be...
Before I went spending money on new leads and a coil I thought I would persevere on and check other things.
I then proceeded to check the dwell angle. Haynes states 26-28 degrees on a single points based distributor. Twin Points is 28-33. My dwell angle is 15 at idle and climbs to 17/18 at higher revs. I measured this at the coil LT ends (I guess this is the correct way).
To me, that does not sound right at all. I am guessing it is probably an issue with the Newtronic ignition system. If so, can the dwell angle be varied, or is there a problem with one of the Newtronic parts (power module etc.)?
Is there a wiring diagram for the Newtronic so I can check over the connections to ensure all is well?
Ta very much! It is on new plugs (NGK BP5ES) and the leads look newish (they came with the car and are Champion 8mm Silicon leads).
