At the weekend, my girlfriend did this... TO THIS!!! We were on our way to a car show when it happened. Nobody hurt, and the Golf came of far better than the XK8. Now I've been charged with un-crashing her Golf The only thing that worries me is that the wheel now has massive negative camber due to the impact - I'm not looking forward to seeing what's bent under there...

Hopefully it can be shunted back into place and all will be straight again. Just worried something else has bent like the track rod / hub / lower wishbone, but I think that's unlikely. The strut might be bent but that's not the end of the world. The Jag was shagged though!

Yeah she's OK cheers - just felt a bit daft. Took me a while to get the pics de-classified to share on here though ;D
The guy in the Jag insisted on carrying on his journey, even though the rad had p!ssed all its water out. Hmmm, one seized supercharged XK lump then....

Have any of the door gaps moved or are there any creases in the roof or the bulkhead? If its shifted the strut over then the chances are its bent the chassis rail, twisted the shell etc. don't mean to pee on your cornflakes but it might be a bit more than a sledge hammer and tree trunk job

I'll go and have a closer look tomorrow. It looked OK, but I didn't look all that carefully (I was still a bit dazed). If it is terminal she's gonna be mighty upset

best place to look is along the top of the door (front if a 5-door), any shell distortion tends to show up here best. hopefully a spreader between the struts will get it back in line though!

Hope it isn't distorted. Basically, if it is then she's lost the car - Jag dude will be OK because the gf's insurance was TPF&T. But if it's more than a bit of panel work and hammering it wouldn't be worth her getting it done I don't think

Like the good Reverand, I don't like to curse word on your chips but that sounds like one dead Golf. When a Mk5 Golf ran into the back corner of my dad's Renault, there was no body damage cos the wheel hit the car (My dad's car needed a new rear quarter though!). This caused the Golf some suspension damage, and it was classed as a Cat C writeoff. On a nearly new car. But as others have said, as long as no lives were lost, nothing else matters too much

don't know if you'd mentioned to sal the possibility of it being dead, but i did earlier. hope its not, but you never know. my 200t split along the chassis rails on both sides.

i rememeber my mate has a xr3 he hit a post in it, took it back to the guy who he bought it 1 week ago from, he had a " body shop "
" can you fix it as cheep as possible?"
"yes"
" how much "
" £20 and you can have it back in 1/2 an hour."
so dave put a chain to the chassie leg, and the other end to a massive post.
he gave it 10,000 revs and dumped the clutch in reverse!
tracked it, and gave it him back.
"as cheep as possible!"

While The "GF" keeps on driving like that, you could plan something like this for Posterity...or Posterior...which ever comes first.. The Big "fin Mopar" looks cool, almost ready to fly off into the wild blue yonder..

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Oh dear, glad to hear no one was hurt. Hope it's fixable, you should be able to pick up any bits you might need cheap in the classified ads on the ClubGTI forum, there is always someone breaking a Mk2 on there. Best of luck with it

Thanks for the sympathies, guys Had a closer look at it this morning. The panel gaps around the doors and stuff are straight. There's no kink in the roof either. The impact was quite far forward on the Golf - the worst damage seems to be a dent in the inner wing. The wonky suspension still bothers me a bit, but I'm hoping nothing terrible has happened there - the turret seems OK, just the strut sits funny in it now I'll get the spanners out tomorrow and have it apart, then I can really see what's going on...

Ouch!
Have you checked the bottom wishbone or the strut itself? also check the subfames to see if they're straight, have repaired MK2 Golfs with worse frontal damage than that, once all the crash damage stuff is off it will look a lot better!
