I'm having a huge amount of problems with my girlfriend's 94 Cinquecento Sx (998cc) today, as, two days after it passed its MOT ironically, the gearbox seems to have given up on me.
About a mile down the road this morning, I was shifting into third, when I found that it no longer seemed to exist! That, along with first and all other gears, second seemed to be the only one to react. After pulling it aside and struggling into reverse to turn, I headed back home, limping it there in second.
Now my tool supplies and resources are very limited, so i'm up the creek so to speak.
I have topped up the gearbox oil, and fiddled with the clutch/gearchange to see if I could get anything out of it, and now it seems to be stuck in gear in the neutral position. Neutral now seems to be where third used to be, and the gearlever is extremely stiff. I've pulled off the gaiter to check that both cables were still intact, and they seem to be, so i'm dumbfounded as to what to do next!
As always, this happened just before the three days that I need the car the most, so i'm a little rattled about this!
Have any of you folk have a similar issue which you have resolved without shelling out three times what the car is worth? I'd love to know, cause i'm drawing a blank.
