Greetings, fellow retro-masochists.
It has come to pass that my Mk1 Golf will be getting a good seeing to of the unsavoury kind - yes, uber-slammage and new shoes.
Now, being previously sound of mind and short of coinage, I've usually been all 'oh, let's pop some standard-sized new tyres on those stock steelies and drive this thing'. Nowt wrong with that.
However, now I want to put either some of these:
or some of these:
under my arches.
Questions thus:
Firstly, which do you guys think would look better? My Golf is sort-of maroon, and I've decided on darkish wheels so the Wellers would be black, and the Superlites would be graphite-centred.
Secondly, I know about ET and how it works, etc, but after playing with that wheel and tyre calculator reanimation posted a screenshot from and I took ages to find/get working, the ETs that Superlites or Wellers are available in will push the wheels out too far.
I was looking at 6s on the front and 7s on the back. Will having the back rims wider and another inch out due to ET look stupid? I have no idea whether this will work!
Thirdly, tyres! This isn't as bad as wheel issues, thanks to my handy Dutch spreadsheet-friend. 165s on the 6s and 185s on the 7s? I did want a tiny bit of stretch but you can't get anything that will stretch slightly over a 6" rim seemingly.
As always, pics of anything relevant will be muchly welcomed. It's pics of the J-tin on their Rewinds and Watanabes that have led to my Superlite choice. ;D
