now thats an experience you have to have once in your life!!
managed to get to grips with the bizarre gear selection system. although the diagram on the dash seamed to show the opposite of what the box was actually like.
have to say, thought it was pretty cool. canvas roof FTW! ;D

Yea, we had one a long while back! First car I ever drove I think, either that or a yella VW beach buggy. Great little car the 2CV, although ours started playing up and would only start on the hand crank.
Changed the chassis on that too, got a pic of it somewhere. The umbrella shift is ace! ;D

yeh it was ok, but when i got back in to put it in the spray booth it wouldnt play ball!!
i was instantly confused by the ingnition barrel being on the other side of the comumn and it rotated the wrong way. if your not on the ball it would have been all to easy to engage the starter again

These are ace cars. Due to the smooth underside It was the only car I successfully took to the top of the downs. And you get used to those gears really quickly too. Not a car for the roads though...

They handle like f00k, stick to the road like glue despite their ability to roll so much they look as if they'd turn over!! I've had 2cv/Dyanes on & off since i was 17, i really rate 'em, i know some peeps despise them & will tell you they are absolute pish, but i know different!! Wouldn't hesistate to drive mine anywhere, the only other car i've felt like that with was my Nissan Laurel. Went to scotland from Cornwall last year in a 2cv, did over a 1000 miles in a week & i didn't use it at all when i got up there! Clocked up 627 miles in ONE day during May in my Dyane, Cornwall-London-Brighton-Cornwall. Didn't miss a beat the whole time. Just turned 100,000 miles in a 602cc flat twin, air cooled! Lower the suspension in half an hour, get 100% uprated springs for 100 quid & go chasing the big boys round the twistys! ;D My Dyane: My old 2cv:

I'd love one of the 24 hour racing 2CVs - slammable with a spanner FTW!

Dig it up, slam it and drive it.

I'd be rather partial to a nice Dyane.
Who cares that they ain't that quick - in the summertime I can't think of many more fun ways to travel.

176% agree. A difficult to beat low-speed summer chariot. Perhaps beaten by the super-clean Mehari I saw up on the North Norfolk coast at the weekend? I'll try and post a piccie tonight.

My folks had a 2cv and a bright yellow diane. To be honest as a kid i find them to be quite embarassing and i always wished theyd get something a little nicer. But i was very young then and ive now grown to like them now.
I saw a pretty mad looking 2cv thing last week going round a roundabout. It looked like the very front section, just the bonnet and wings basically had been attached to some mad trike thing with a mad looking biker dude catching the wind in his hair. Id love to have gotten a photo as it looked totally unique. Infact that day i wish i had the camera with me as i passed loads of retro including a marina, a mk2 escort, another capri, an avenger, they were all out that day!

A couple of Spanish Dyane's that came on the Plymouth-Dakar with our group this year. They BOTH snapped their chassi's in the desert, nothing some bits of wood & ratchet straps would'nt fix though I ended up driving this one for the last 1000 miles as the steering column broke & I was the only one brave or stupid enough to drive it. The ability to thump the steering wheel with a mallet whilst driving was required
