Went to check the oil pre MOT and the end of the dipstick has fallen off so how the hell do I get the end out? Sump off I'm guessing, but it's a big wing sump above a world cup crossmember, and that looks like a tight fit. My question, is this an engine out job and what's best, engine on it's own or with gearbox out of the top or drop the lot from underneath? Thanks chaps, Pete

how much has come off pete?
just the handle, or the little bit off the bottom? I'm gussing youve got the bowden-cable wire style one rather than the striaght flat rod one? if its the handle end its come off, pull the dipstick tube out of the block and youll be able to get hold of whats left. I'm guessing it will be a sump off job if its just the end bit thats come off. but youll probly find you can undo the engine mounts, and block/lift/tie the motor up enough to get the sump off without having to take the whole thing out.

Thanks Dez, yep, it is the Bowden cable style and the whole thing is missing! I've got the dipstick tube out and still no joy. I'm thinking I'll lift the engine like you say, and drop the crossmember to try and get the sump off first, otherwise, it'll be engine out but at least I'll be halfway there Ah the joys!
